Yup, Taylor was surprisingly way up on the cards at the time of the knockout. Some writers at ringside had Jermain up 5-1 and even 6-0. It was as if two different fights took place

True, the scores were as accurate as Sly's prediction

Hey, when Taylor dropped Pavlik hard and went on the attack, everyone here thought for those moments that my prediction would be accurate.

Still, I'd gladly match my prediction record up against yours any day...

Yep, one of the funniest photos ever was Kelly counting 9 with his fingers while Mundine slumbered peacefully on the canvas.

It's not as funny as a couple of Zab Judah's photos against Tszyu, but it still warrants a chuckle whenever I think about it.

Yep, for the first 1.5 seconds, Grimsley was clearly ahead on ring generalship.

That was a classic battle: Grimsley versus the referee and ringside doctor as he laid upon the canvas, tapping and prodding them with his boxing gloves.[IMG]

That was pathetic. I'm sure Wayne is a good guy, and with no shortage of friends in the NY/NJ area. But he's a shit ref, whose good moments seem to be exceptions in his career. To me, he's in line with guys like Mercante Jr, who have the ability to be a good ref, but ruin it by going out their way to make themselves part of the fight. Cortez is the worst offender of this, except that he doesn't even have the "good ref" part on which to fall back.

I imagine it had something to do with Mundine's comments about the U.S. deserving 9/11 sometime before the fight. Kelly's hands are maybe a foot or so away from Mundine's face. LOL.

Damn for some reason I always thought he was up on the cards at the time of the stoppage, that the perception was he was down but the judges had it otherwise. Didn't realize two of the three judges actually had it right.

I think the Ottke-Mundine situation was influenced by Tszyu-Judah. At the time, there was a lot of argument as to whether or not Judah should've been permitted to continue (most felt Nady did the fair thing, but it was a very far cry from the 100% consensus nowadays that Tszyu won it the right way), & there were rumours at the time referees were being spoken to in regards to stopping fights prematurely, or at least being aware of that risk.

At least, that was the talk of the day concerning Kelly's bizarre count-out.

The Ottke-Mundine situation was influenced by what Mundine had to say about the 9-11 atrocities. Glen Kelly, a New Yorker, took liberties of the highest order in abandoning his duties as referee and placing in their stead the pursuit of a personal agenda.

Ray Charles could see that Mundine was not getting up and that the proper course of action would have been to abandon the count and administer immediate medical attention, beginning with the removal of the shield and the rolling of Mundine into the recovery position.

I have no sympathy for Mundine in any capacity but the game cannot afford bad press, and poor officiating especially in GERMANY is just the sort of thing that would be used to generate great copy amongst boxings many detractors.

Ignoring knowledge and indulging in echolocation.
Had he re-worded it better, I'd champion his calls. Problem is, we know his design at it's base, and allign the motivations for his quotes accordingly. Same with the burning of the English flag, I think the purpose of this is spawned from the perspective of non-historic avenues, and he's simply a hateful, racist cunt, who wishes desperately he were a black-american militant panther, and his little exhibit had no symbolic merit against the invading english murderers 200+ years ago,.. I wouldn't in the slightest have a problem with him accusing Cheney, Wolfawitz, Bush, and thier administrative conspirers of orchestrating spectacular murder for massive personal gains, but instead, I think he was just reppin' for the Punchbowl hood, along with his Lebanese homies, and a few Islander mates who've converted to Islam. They too, all call themselves 'black'.

Rolando Navarette was winning on all judges cards before being stopped and losing his title to Bazooka Limon.

The same for Johnny Bumphus against Gene Hatcher.
