Is he ready to step up? He has looked decent with some good stand up in his last couple fights. I would like to see him in there with a guy on the bubble, a Gonzaga or Struve. But I wonder, if that is too much for a guy with such little experience. What do you guys think?opcorn: And while we are talking about it, what about Pat Barry?
I like him. I want to see him against these guys. 1. Schaub 2. Pat Berry (they're buddies though so mabye not) 3. Cro Cop
I think that meathead will be exposed as soon as he meets up With someone who has any decent standup skills. He really has only fought guys with miserable standup.
I have thought the same. But you must admit Bob, he has a ton of upside, being so inexperienced. How do you think he'd fare against Struve or Gonzaga?
I was wondering the same thing about Meathead. I have to admit the guy has looked impressive against a couple of C level fighters in Hague and Beltran. That being said, Todd Duffee also destroyed Hague so it isn't that big a feat. I am with the majority here and think it's time for Mitrione to get matched with a solid B level fighter like Struve, Nelson, Schaub or Kongo. I think he's got a good shot with each. The guy is athletic and seems to have naturally heavy hands. According to guys he trains with at Roufusport, Mitrione has good TD defense and solid BJJ. We will see eventually.
I bet both would try to get him down. Don't know too much about Meatheads ground game, but I could see them subbing him.
yeah, me too. Actually, I like Trplsec's fight with him and Kongo first. That would be a very solid test and Kongo isn't going to try and sub him. Does Heath Herring still fight for the UFC? He'd be a nice matchup as well. Something tells me Matt beats Gonzaga though.
I'm not sure about Herring. I never heard anything it's kinda weird. He hasn't fought since the Lesnar loss years ago. I don't know what the deal is there .
Herring is still with the UFC. He had the broken orbital against Lesnar and then some other illness leading up to UFC 99. He's also been pulling a Randy Couture and working in movies. I think he is now pushing to get back in the cage. That would be a decent test for Meathead.
I found this over at Sherdog about Meathead. Forecast for Mitrione: The “Ultimate Fighter†Season 10 alumnus is suddenly becoming a fan favorite. Even though Mitrione is showing a lot of promise, his lack of experience makes him difficult to match up. With most UFC heavyweights already signed for upcoming fights or sidelined with injuries, Mitrione could be looking at a match with Rob Broughton at a rumored May show in Glasgow, Scotland. If he does not want to sit out that long, Mitrione may have to take on a debutante.
Are they really? They seemed to have beef on the last UFC - i thought it was pretty clear they would fight each other after that. But maybe that was just some friendly teasing? :dunno:
Nelson would beat the shit out of Mitrione. I admit he looks a bit better now than on TUF, less like a toughman contestant, and he IS surprisingly athletic for a big man, but he's crap. He stands almost no chance against Nelson.
I agree. I thought he was a complete knob on TUF, but he's come across better since then. I just don't see any reason to expect him to be able to compete with someone like Nelson or Rothwell. Those guys are a full level or three above guys like Mitrione. Mitrione has no business in the UFC right now. UFC is all about how it is a brand, a quality program, etc. It's not about building up a guy with no credentials other than some NFL time.
I remember Rogan addressing that he said they train together and are buddies. So that's as much as I know.
I don't see Mitrione as a cake walk for Nelson. If Meathead can stuff a few take downs, I think his chin and punching power can keep him competitive with Big Country.
I see it the same, I think Big Country would win, but more on his crafty experience on knowing how to get the win. I don't think he would kill him. I think it could be a slugfest with Big Country finally getting him down and subbing him out.
Mitrione is still in the starting out stages, but I was watching one of his takedown defenses, and he moved quite fluidly for a big man. It actually surprised me.
Roy Nelson is getting a little over rated. Who has he beat? Just because he hung in there and took a beating from JDS, that doesn't make him good. He's lost to every guy that he's fought that was any good. Monson, Arlovski, Rothwell JDS. His best wins are other UFC newcomers like Schaub and Stuve.
