Middleweight. Even with Mayorga fighting 2 weight classes above his natural weight Tito still couldnt get him down with chin shots! That beating clearly ruined him. He was never the same..........
So basically, the Forrest wins don't count and I have to come up with additional proof that Mayorga can beat a fighter like Holt. Seriously, do you not see how absurd your argument has become in trying to slam the guy? I honestly hate the fact that I have to speak for that POS, since he's one of my least favorite fighters... probably ever. There has never been a moment where I rooted for him. I even somewhat rooted for Vargas against Mayorga, and Fernando is right there with him on the list of fighters I can't stand.
You just don't get it, Jake. :nono: Obviously, his KO loss to Trinidad at middleweight tells us more about Mayorga as a welterweight than his two wins vs. Vernon Forrest at welterweight. Come on.
Sure his fights with Forrest count. But you cant honestly tell me that Forrest didnt fight a stupid fight. You cant tell me that if Forrest wasnt more diciplined and decided against wreckless trading with Mayorga that he couldnt have beat him. I also think Forrest was robbed in the second fight. So based on the win over Forrest, the second forrest fight, which i thought Forrest won, the loss in the spinks fight, his Tito loss, his DLH loss, i would say that Holt could beat Mayorga. Again his only significant win is Forrest. Thats it. Is his win over forrest, but losses to guys like Spinks and even lesser fighters early in career proof that he beats Holt?
No, because Cotto showed that he couldn't do that in the fights with Mosley and Margarito. Are you saying Margarito is fast? He had to set his feet to punch against Marg, and the plaster of paris punches caught up with him eventually. Getting rocked by Corley and Torres and then knocking them out is different from getting knocked out by a guy with bricks in his gloves. Any fighter who hadn't just come off a shellacking at the hands of another fighter (Pacquiao's preferred brand of opponent)? Mayorga smokes 2 packs a day, he said in an interview that he cuts down gradually during training. He also said that the hardest thing he ever did in his life was quit for 7 months because his daughter was sick, and he vowed to quit for 7 months if she got better. I think Mayorga is more shot than Cotto but then I don't see Mayorga as a world beater to begin with. I do think Mayorga would've pushed Kendall Holt's shit in.
All you've proven, though, is that Forrest would win a Mythical Matchup. Every post you've made in this debate has been based on speculation and we've gone so far around the block that I almost forgot what we were debating. Here are some indisputables fact for you: Ricardo Mayorga has NEVER been dropped as a welterweight. At different points of his prime and even on the way up, the undefeated version of Miguel Cotto has been hurt and/or dropped by the following: - Lovemore N'Dou (stunned but not dropped) - DeMarcus Corley (badly rocked, but not dropped) - Ricardo Torres (hurt and dropped, after having already floored Torres) - Zab Judah, past-prime version (hurt and bloodied but never dropped) Conclusion: There exists zero proof that Mayorga lacked punch resistance at welterweight, whereas there exists sufficient proof that prime Cotto could be hurt, and by lesser punchers than Mayorga. Everything else is pure speculation.
This whole conversation is speculation and basically a mythical Matchup since we cant go back in time. I just dont see someone like Mayorga being able to stop the body punches from one of the best body punchers in the sport.
True, but that doesnt change the fact that Mayorga was never tested to the body like Cotto would test him.
True, but there is no evidence that his body was "glass" at 147lbs..for as you said, he was never tested.
Fair enough, but what isn't speculation is that Cotto was visibly shaken to his BOOTS by guys that didn't punch as hard or were as naturally big as Ricardo Mayorga and therefore it's reasonable to presume that Mayorga could shake up Cotto and if he did, had the tenacity to finish him off..
Its more speculation tho. Since there were fighters that also didnt shake cotto that punch hard. Bailey is arguably one of the hardest punchers out there and didnt do shit to cotto.
