Nah...Vargas fought the way Vargas fought. That's like saying "If Joe Frazier fought a smarter fight he would have beaten Foreman".

Tito has been beaten by Hopkins, Jones and Wright. Three very smart and cagey fighters. Guess what..all three would have beaten De La Hoya, Mosley, Quartey as well.

People can't act as though EVERY FIGHTER WITH A JAB beats Tito. That's ridiculous.

Thats what I was trying to touch on.

Vargas jabbed well against Trinidad in spots but he didn't have the defense to avoid the incoming shots from Trinidad whereas Hopkins and De La Hoya did.

Winky was just too strong and defensively sound for Tito to go along with the jab that he was killing Trinidad with.

Vargas' jab was nothing like Wright's.

    Oscar-Wright would have been interesting.

One things for sure, he wouldn't have lost 12-0.

I don't know about interesting. Wright wins most of the rounds. There's a reason Winky is one of the few notable names that Oscar didn't fight.

Agreed. It would have been more competitive but at 160 I'd pick Wright to win fairly clearly.

At 160, sure, but Tito was way more comfortable at 160 than Oscar, so I think the fairer comparison would be a match at 154.

The Oscar who fought Vargas or Castilejjo vs Wright is an interesting match up. A close match up, IMO.

He might have nicked a round, yeah. His fundamental problems against Wright weren't a matter of size or speed though, they were a matter of boxing knowledge.

I disagree. A prime Tito @154 would have made it interesting.

pretty sad that Hopkins is held in high regard for having waited around at 160 for welterweights to move up (and move up because they're older and find it more difficult to keep their weight down).

Similarly, Wright is closer to a middle-weight than a welterweight.

Pretty sad that 160 has been shit in the U.S. for so long. And that Hopkins is a dirty bitch.

Same can be said of Hagler...if you want to go down that route...

Oh and Hopkins is a ALL TIME GREAT, one of the best we've ever seen.

As much as I dislike him, I agree. He is indeed one of the best ever.

Good point. The real men at at 168. Apparently, 160 is and always has been a bunch of welter-weight-wanting-to-fight vaginas. The only question is, how wet are they? Are they wet vaginas? Or dry ones? Like those of frigid, horrible women, women damaged and dry?
