Saw "The American" and finally saw "The Town."

"Town" is a poor man's "Heat." Good, but not great.

"The American." Not sure what I thought about the plot...was more focused on the hot hooker Clooney got down with. I would have done that movie solely for the sex scenes and seeing her naked.

    Saw The Fighter last night.

Really good movie. Ironicaly the fight scenes where probably the weakest part of the film. Bale was awesome in it, and had his character nailed.

One odd thing was hearing Shea Neary's Irish accent in the film. He's about as Scouse as you can imagine in real life.

well, they also made him out to be THE welterweight champion of the world (he was a UBF jr. Welter champ or something) so he was a semi fictional character anyway.

true grit is on an unreal level of quality. fucking brilliant. i mean, the fucking dialogue, the acting, the direction, .... really special imo. it might be their best ever. no coutnry's a classic and is great at ratcheting up the tension, but overall true grit's a better, deeper movie i reckon.

I have a pet peeve against people who make statements like this. You mean you'd sit through a crap movie just to see some titties and a little no penetration showing sex? What are you a preteen? I got over that boring shit before my 18th birthday. If I want to see real nudity and sex I'll pop in a porno, and if you're getting a boner off of some chick flashing you on screen you might have some growing up to do.

I find most porno movies to be horrible. The well done movie sex scenes are much more erotic.

You shoul watch Swimming Pool, lb4lb.

Most pornos are horrible, you just have to sift through the hay to find the few needles that are pretty good out there, and believe me there's a lot of hay and very few needles.

I only enjoy movies that hold my attention due to the story. I can't get interested in movies based on side benefits such as hot chicks, nude scenes, or nonpenetrative obviously faked sex. Therefore I'll have to pass on Swimming Pool even if it surprisingly has a good score of 6.8 on IMDB. Thanks for the suggestion though.

By the way, Faster, with The Rock was surpsingly good. I'd probably rate it a 7/10.

In my top 10 westerns for sure, loved it.

Have you watched Appaloosa? Try that one if you haven't. It's my favorite western.

Ajami...I liked this one. Sort of a Middle Eastern "Crash" if someone wants a lazy comparison.

You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger...Not great, just a decent Woody Allen flick with Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, and Anthony Hopkins on viagra.

LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS: THE OWLS OF GA’HOOLE Excellent animated film for children of all ages. I am amazed this film did so poorly at the box office. I really enjoyed it even though the plot was very predictable good vs evil fare. The owls had more personality than many live action actors from recent films. Watched it twice with my kids. 8/10

My Bodyguard Rewatched this film again since I barely remembered it from 1980. Still a good film. Solid acting by all the teen actors. This was before 80's formula took over teen films: there is no flashy cool clothing, no annoying electronic music, no unrealistic teens getting away with smart ass schemes. The 'feel good' parts are were they deserve to be and you actually feel the tension for the kid being bullied and the pain of his 'bodyguard' conflict. I remembered that at the time of its release many critics lamented that such a fine film resolved the conflict with the bullies with a fist fight. Well, that's real life, isn't it? few can use diplomacy when taken to the extremes. I am amazed that of this group of young actors it was Matt Dillon the one who had a better career since IMO Adam Baldwin was simply amazing as the quiet troubled reluctant bodyguard. 8/10

Poseidon Watched this only a couple of weeks after having rewatch the 1972 cult classic The Poseidon Adventure. Here is in a nutshell the differences: the original had a stellar cast: Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters, Roddy McDowell, Red Bottoms, Stella Stevens, Carol Lynley, Leslie Nielsen, Jack Albertson among others. The new version has Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss and...was that Matt Dillon in a if you blink will miss him cameo? oh and Fergie from Blackeye Peas that deservedly dies after performing three horrible plot stopping songs. In the original there is a conflict among Hackman & Bornine about making the right decisions. In this one is similar, but less heated with the only difference is that both characters are hateful and you wish they drown in the next scene. The 1972 version was campy fun, over the top and had all the female characters wearing hot pants, sexy night gowns or ripping their dresses to reveal more leg. This one is more feminist maintaining the ladies properly dressed all the time. The new version is more graphic in its death scenes. The new version cost $200 million to make and bombed miserably at the box office while the 1972 original was a monster hit that spawned a whole genre of disaster films with an all star cast. My verdict: 1972 still packs a punch even if it looks dated 8/10 The 2006 version had nothing memorable about it so it deserved to sink: 5/10

Good critiques all around Panchy. I especially liked the Poseidon one. Clever move critiquing both whilst comparing them with each other.

Let me take a minute to explain this thread to you because you're kind of new. You go to the movies or rent/buy movies and after seeing them you come on here and tell us what you thought of them.

You don't go buy movies come on here tell us what you bought and ask us which ones are good. The thread doesn't work that way.

Now go pop those movies into your VCR, open a can of spam and fill us in later.

The Kids Are All Right...very over-rated flick, IMO. It has a 94% tomato rating and was nominated for Best Picture, and I'm not seeing either of thsoe...I think it's similar to Juno, in that it's supposedly getting credit for "tackling" a hot-button issue (gay marriage) much like Juno did (teen pregnancy)...when it doesn't seriously address the issue, but instead simply uses it as the central theme of a poorly written movie...issues aren't being discussed in any real serious way...something which seems obvious by the way in which the lead male characters are written...which, seems both poor and intentionally poor.
