Was Oliver McCall-James Stanton the last Saturday night boxing broadcast on network television?

Speaking of the Barrera-Fernandez fight, I think I remember them showing boxing twice that weekend...with Wayne McCullough-Julio Cesar Cardona also taking place from Denver on back-to-back days.

What a shitty list of fights. No wonder boxing fails on Network TV.

I wouldn't bring boxing back either, if that was the shit I was getting fed by promoters.

Interestingly, Friday Night Fights has had two strong audiences this year...well over 700,000.

Yup. I think that was the last ever live title fight on network TV.

Bernard Hopkins-Glen Johnson was on CBS, to add to whatever list was floating around earlier. In fact, Bernard had at least three title fights on network TV - the Johnson fight on CBS, his record-breaking knockout of late sub Steve Frank on Fox, and Joe Lipsey on ABC (Lipsey was supposed to fight him on the Fox telecast but postponed due to injury).

The Fox series was somewhat well-intended, but didn't take very long for King to fuck the dog. Terry Norris fought like three months in a row - Paul Vaden on the initial broadcast (co-feature to Tyson-Buster Mathis), then a tune-up against Jorge Luis Vado (co-feature to Hopkins-Frank) and a main event against Vincent Pettway.

MK - I think you're right on the McCall-Stanton card being the last of the series on Fox. Not sure if it moved to Fox Sports immediately after, or went under and then was picked up years later by America Presents (now known as Goossen Tutor, for the most part)

I never would have guessed that anyone would draw that high on foxsports espanol.
And they were up against HBO with the Bradley/Alexander fight, a good TyC card, and I think an Azteca card. And it wasn't a good matchup. Chavez Jr. really is a draw, that's the only conclusion that makes sense.

Thinking back, I believe both Moorer-Shulz ('96) and Stevie Johnston-Jean-Baptiste Mendy ('97) were world title fights on ABC.

Agree on the downward trend of boxing on Fox...I believe McCall-Stanton was on the same night as Gatti-Rodrigues, which was still in the early stages of BAD.

Yeah, it seems to me there's enough to show that Chavez could do some very good numbers in some markets.

I would like to see Arum do something with that...if not CBS then perhaps ESPN...something with a wide non-ppv audience.

I tend to agree, although I'd give Cintron good shots over Chavez, and Berto because they're unproven and Mosley because he's shot to fucking death. However, Cintron wouldn't stand a chance against the Shane that wacked out Margarito.

Double L likes to excuse every ounce of evidence that proves Cintron is crap, as a bunch of flukes when the only fluke I see is Cintron defeating Angulo. Fact is, you put Cintron in the ring with a plasterless Margarito and Margarito still beats Cintron 10 out of 10 times. Because even though Double L likes to point out Margarito cheated, plaster knuckles won't cover up the fact that Margarito has 10 times the toughness and heart that Cintron does.

Cintron IS a pretty good boxer, I won't dispute that. His overall weakness that will always hold him back is the fact that physically and mentally he's soft as tissue paper. And the funny part is that Cintron seems to totally forget how soft/scared he is until he gets in the ring.
