Great news! Been a plethora of MMA news recently, but this is by far the most important I've heard.

Hopefully, although not likely this is effective immediately and Fitch-Penn is 5 rounds. :bears:

For once, you and I agree. Fitch-Penn over 5 rounds should be the test for this!!

If they'll only do it for main events or title eliminators (which usually are) it's good.

Most people don't want to see long fights on undercards.

Why do you guys like this? I think it rarely changes the outcome and usually after a round or two you've seen it all.

In a 5 rounder, yes. It definitely gives Fitch more of an advantage, his cardio is solid, Penn...not so much, especially at 170.

I do give BJ a chance though, his striking is WAY better than Fitch's so he's got a chance standing, and obviously you can't count him out on the mat, his BJJ is world class. The longer the fight goes, the more it favors Fitch though.

Or, if they're Considering Lengthening CHAMPIONSHIPS Fights, Somewhere Down the Line....

If they do it for every single fight they have to cut down on number of fights and that would suck. They should only do it for main event fights.

Alot of times the fights that seem to be "turning" in the last round, may not be that way if the fight was 5 rounds. Fighters taylor their strategy to the length of the fight. I agree, with MMA, the most technical aspect usually occurs in the first 3 rounds. If I want to watch long fights, I'd just watch boxing :scared2:

It should be like boxing, where 5 rounders are for eliminators and title shots only. Everything else should remain 3 rounds.

I like 3 rounders personally, no need to conserve as much energy. Guys just go for it knowing there is only 3 rounds. 5 rounders sometimes have a slow pace.

    Another solid idea.

By the way, BJ is probably one of my top 5 favorite MMA fighters. But his conditioning typically blows. Sometimes it doesn't get exposed when he gets to box as he did with Sanchez, Florian, etc. The thought of 5 rounds with a wrestler might make BJ take cardio seriously.

That being said, I just don't see how BJ wins even a 3 round fight with the human velcro that is Jon Fitch. I can hope but wouldn't bet on it.

I agree with everything you just said. I'd love for BJ to win, but don't like his chances much against Fitch who is a friggin giant at 170.
