Who wins this mega fight ? This is the Floyd Mayweather vs Pacquiao of mma! Except they both cleaned out their divisions and except one isn't a fucking walking talking vagina. Who takes this mega fight of 2011 (Fuck you Shields you're not ruining this!)
At UFC 129 I kinda would like to see GSP vs say Nate Marquat at 185 lbs instead of GSP vs Shields. Just to see how GSP handles him before taking on Anderson.
Anderson KO1 GSP. Anderson would definitely put the hurt on him. GSP is a great athlete, but his chin would get checked early and often. He's the smaller fighter structurally, the lesser striker, and a big question mark at middleweight. Silva by whatever way he wants it.
I do think GSP is capable of winning, but I think he would have to fight basically the perfect fight to beat Silva. GSP can no doubt take Silva down IF and this is a big if, he is able to get close enough. I'm thinking Silva's size and reach is going to be a huge factor in this fight. He's going to have to get past Silva's reach to be able to secure a TD and that is no easy task. With that said Shields Sub 2
Buddy, what makes you think GSP will spend more than 30 seconds standing with Silva? GSP is a much better version of Sonnen.
In a pound for pound sense, I agree. In a real fight Sonnen would probably ragdoll GSP. He's huge compared to GSP and strength definitely matters.
I guess we disagree. Sonnen is bigger, but he just isn't as good as GSP. Everything Sonnen does, GSP does better. GSP's strength isn't that far off from Sonnen's neither.
I favour GSP. As great as Silva is at standing up, for the most part he relies on his opponents making mistakes. We've seen what happens when opponents don't come to him - he doesn't go looking for him. Belfort's mistake was standing still in range, though he probably thought that Silva wasn't in a position to do anything. He was wrong, but GSP won't be. GSP's concern will be timing the takedowns right so that he doesn't run into a knee or something...but everything is so calculated, it's difficult to predict him being so sloppy. The size is an issue, but not as much of an issue for GSP as it would be against a different style of opponent. Silva's size advtantage isn't so much strength, but his ranginess. That provides a problem for GSP, but one that - with his fast shot and savviness - I expect him to overcome. The X factor is that Silva can end a fight in a blink of an eye - or as we saw last weekend - a flick of a leg.
silva easy GSP need hos strenght advantage to be dominant, and I think he'll lose iot at 185 (wich is what makes him reluctant to move up imo). Also, I knew a couple of pro boxer who sparred with GSP, and they all say his jaw is cristal
Just like I thought Franklin was technically a better fighter and he'd beat Griffin. Size played a huge roll in that fight and I think it will in this one too.
As MUCH as REED Loooooooooves him, GSP FIGHTS like a Guy that DOESN'T Trust His Chin...This has Been the Case Since the 1st Serra Bout...Can a Guy w/a SHAKY Chin Last 5 FULL Rounds w/Anderson Silva, w/Out Being CHIN CHECKED???... REED Doesn't Think So... REED:mj:
GSP definitely avoids punishment, but Silva is way too fluid. I've yet to see one of GSP's opponents move in and out as fast as Silva. He's a speed demon with excellent striking. Silva tends to put the stamp on actual threats early. The Sonnen fight was likely an aberration if you believe the rumour that Silva had hurt ribs going into that fight. I am a much bigger fan of GSP's mindset, but Silva stops him early and painfully.
Silva.. Whether it's easy or difficult depends on how much success GSP has taking Silva down. At a catch weight of 175-178, I like GSP's chances of getting Silva to the ground. But as Sonnen found out, if you're not a finisher (neither Sonnen or GSP are), it means you're going 5 rounds which gives Silva too many opportunities to finish the fight. Again, Sonnen learned this the hard way. GSP isn't going to knock Silva out. GSP isn't going to submit Silva. GSP won't win via a ground and pound stoppage. His singular shot at winning is controlling via top position and grinding out a decision victory. That's too many chances for Anderson to land a big shot and as Reed said, GSP is a guy that got his chin checked by a 155 pounder so you have to think Silva can do the same. Not to mention, even from the bottom against a good wrestler, Silva is still dangerous. Beyond the possible submission, Anderson is one of the best I've ever seen at doing and avoiding damage from the bottom. Hell, he was underneath Sonnen for almost 20 minutes of their fight and it was Sonnen that was the bloody mess at the end. I like Silva via KO in the 3rd.
