Marquez might find himself inactive for about a year, though. From what I understand, Golden Boy has a 12-month option to match any offer made during that period. It's something to that effect, but I know that Marquez' expiration date on his contract does not equate a clean break and true free agent status.
You would think these idiots could put their differences aside to make these fights. It's pretty ridiculous.
Honestly, if it means taking place at 147, Pac-Marquez III is a fight that I can live without. There was a time and place for their third fight and IMO it came and went. A lot of writers were barking for that fight to be made, which quite honestly lessened their argument that Pac-Mosley was the wrong choice (even though that matchup still sucks). But I've always been of the contention that a Pac-Marquez fight anywhere above 135 is along the lines of 'careful what you wish for.' Conversely, there are a shitload of lightweight fights I'd love to see take place, yet Golden Boy never seemed to be in a hurry to match Marquez against anyone not under their banner. If Marquez does indeed leave, those are the fights I want to see take place - though of course that only means we'll get a flabby Marquez against Pacquiao at 147 instead.
Yeah, I think that's what Schaefer said. And I agree with the time having come and gone as far as a third Pacquiao fight...and I don't know, something about the media campaign for it strikes me as disingenuous and I felt the same way about Mayweather-Baldomir.
