RING MAGAZINE Ranked Contenders, @ That...RING Bitched the LOUDEST about Roy's Comp, yet he Fought Guys that THEY Ranked...REED'll B the 1st to Admit that Roy's Resume WASN'T Great, but it's Still UNDERrated, in REED's Opinion...

I was about to say... trying to say that Hagler ducked Michael Nunn is insane, especially considering the career-high payday that awaited him in a matchup that the boxing world had been salivating about for years

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Ramonza, surprisingly, is not in his late-70's...

On the other hand, is it crazy to say that SRL, that always-retired mother-fucker, wasn't ducking: Curry, McCallum, Hagler, Starling, Pryor, Nunn,....?

    REEDsART MATCHMAKER

While Clearly OPPORTUNISTIC, REED Falls SHORT of Flat Out Accusing Leonard of DUCKING Anybody...Compared to the # of Bouts he Had, Leonard's Resume is RIDICULOUS...He was Dela BEFORE Dela, in Terms of Resume...

  6. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

except leonard managed to win a few of his meaningful fights vs key foes

Here's one - through each of the 5 rounds of Robinson-Lamotta II that I counted, Ray threw an average of well over 100 punches. I think it was 110 odd.

I've never heard him described as a volume puncher, but he put modern guys like Calzaghe & even Pac in the shade.

He sure gave a PED-infused Mosley a working over in their rematch. Won that fight hands down.

Ditto for Vargas...oh, & Trinidad. Beat Whitaker & Quartey, too. There was also Chavez.

Yep, lost all his big fights, Oscar did.

Joe Calzaghe once fit six cocks in his mouth at the same time.

  16. Muzse

    Muzse "Twinkle Toes" McJack

hey lost to whitaker and quartey on my scorecards, but he's owed credit for facing them.

I hated Oscar but he stopped taking the Mayweather road as he got older.

  17. Mitchell Kane

Mitchell Kane WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

    My scorecards too.

  18. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

    he beat vargas. and chavez

  19. The fact is that there are a lot of very talented fighters that Leonard never faced. He fought Hagler when Marvin was about 35 years old and on the slide. Most great fighters are guilty of not facing all of the threats of their generation. Leonard was no exception regardless of how you want to spin it.

You have Oscar losing every fight in his career he didn't win via knockout.

  21. Muzse

    Muzse "Twinkle Toes" McJack

    :nono:

    Not true.

I had Oscar winning at least six rounds before Nacho prematurely stopped it. He had Manny hurt and reeling. Manny wouldn't have lasted another round.

    Fair enough

If by "Mayweather road" you mean ducking threats, who exactly did he duck? The only fighter I can think of is Winky Wright, who was a poor risk/reward for any name at 147-160 back then.

  24. Mitchell Kane

Mitchell Kane WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

I think much of that talk began to end around '99.

You could make the case DLH avoided rematches though...even the Mosley rematch, which did happen, came at 154 after the Forrest losses.

How about almost the entire weltweight division since he won the title there.

  26. Dog Jones

Dog Jones WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

Terry Norris lost two straight title fights by disqualification.

  27. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

De La Hoya was fighting Vargas instead of Mosley. You could hardly accuse him of taking the easy road.

  28. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

    Uh-huh.

  29. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Here's the big question, though --- did he lose by a big enough margin to call those fights robberies, in your view?

That's what really matters. For what it's worth, I had De La Hoya edging Whitaker out by the narrowest of margins, & scored his fight with Quartey a draw. I would never argue tooth-&-nail with someone scoring those fights for his rivals, but I don't see De La Hoya having won those as robberies, either --- herego, they stand legitimate in my eyes. Simply me disagreeing by a small margin doesn't mean I will argue a fighter didn't win.

  30. Mitchell Kane

Mitchell Kane WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

De La Hoya used to say he wouldn't fight Vargas, seemed pretty adamant about it...and then changed that after Vargas' chin was cracked by Trinidad...the evidence of which seemed clear in the Rivera and Flores fights.
