I mean what is it ? Are they all shot as soon as they cross the ocean ? Is it because fighting under pride rules is so different than fighting under unified mma rules ? Is it because of the cage ? Coincidence ? Mind you some of them have some success but nothing compared to back in Pride. Is it because the competition is A LOT LOT stiffer ?
Ummm, the guys that were top dogs in the UFC while Pride was at its peak aren't doing any better. They've gotten old or haven't evolved, simple as that.
So if you take a prime Wandy and throw him into the mix at UFC's 205 division would he dominate like he did in pride ? Same with Fedor and Crocop and Noig and etc ?
It's a trend these days to say that the Pride guys couldn't cut it in the UFC. Look at the rankings for both organizations and look at who is still around. It would be the same shit if the UFC went under and was sold to Pride.
Terribly obvious agenda you have. Mixed Martial Artists are more skilled and better athletically than they were 10 years ago, and I think if those guys were younger and had access to the newer style of training and fight camps they would do just fine.
Not only that, but people don't realize the difference in fighting in a ring vs. A cage. Cage greatly favors the wrestlers where the ring is better for strikers.
Steroids help. Wanderlei wouldn't have dominated anyway. He HAD a UFC career. It consisted of going 1-2 with a KO loss from Vitor and being dominated by Tito.
WTF Who are those pride guys that can cut it Two of the UFC champ Anderson silva (who was clowned in pride) and shogun are former pride fighter. Best HW in thwe world is a former POride fighter (overeem) Not to mention former champ like Nog, Henderson, Rampage and contender like Belfort, lil nog and wandy Yep those pride guy just cant cut it in the states
When Pride dissolved, Jackson came over and beat the reigning LWH champ. Anderson Silva dethroned Franklin and has been kicking ass ever since. Shogun is the champ at LHW right now. Not exactly "ended up sucking in the UFC".
wanderlei had already begun to decline before the demise of pride. i'm sure him being off roids didn't help either. that's what also attributed to shogun looking like shit (plus the injury) vs. griffin and coleman. crocop was entering his mid 30s to by the time he transitioned and you could tell the noticeable size difference compared to when he was juicing. as some of the folks here mentioned, i think there was a multitude of reasons why guys from pride didn't have much success. that whole fighting in the cage thing and different regulations are probably other reasons too.
LOL... What? Belfort, both Nogs, Wandy have been shit back in the UFC. Are you kidding. 4 or 5 of my favorite knockouts from the last 3 years have involved these guys getting layed out. And by the way, Overeem was dismal in Pride. The guy lost to absolutely every good fighter he faced in Pride. He record was like 6-7 in Pride. The only remotely decent guy he beat was a Belfort who was fresh off back-to-back loses in the UFC to Ortiz and Liddell. Please, Please, Please tell me the one thing he's done to be called the best HW in the world. That is moronic.
I was watching some old pride fights last night and as much as some of you might not like this, the fighters today are just plain better. The officiating in pride was fucking strange. The whole yellow card, red card shit was not used consistantly, it was used when they felt like it. and the damn rules were changed to benifit whoever Pride wanted to win, tons of matches where kicks and knees to downed opponents were not legal and A LOT of the pride fighters were nothing more than Japanese pro wrestlers. Also, Anderson Silva is NOT a pride fighter. Anderson came from Cage Rage to the UFC and only fought a few times in Pride. MMA is evolving, that is all there is to it.
Well one of the nog was HW champ, the other lost to top contender bader in a real close one, . Belfort was in a title fight, and destroyed former champ and middlewight top contender Franklin Even Wandy has a pretty good victory over Bisping recently, not to mention that he was already on the way down before coming in the UFC Well, I guess you're the kind of guy, that think everyone's shit except for the 4-5 top fighters in the world:wack:
No, completely different Liddell was passed by the UFC for the tournament, while Silva was signed by Pride, and was cut afterward cause his performance weren't good enough
Couldn't disagree more. I don't see those guy that are so much better than they were before, and I don't think that MMA has evolved a lot since the last 5-6 years
Wrong. He won the interim title by beating Sylvia when the real champ was Couture who hadn't lost the title in the cage. Nice try though. And hey, if you're OK with considering a collective 7-6 record including BRUTAL knockout loses as a solid performance by these guys, then we just don't see it the same. Man, giving a dude credit for a narrow win over Bisping who had just been starched by Henderson is a real reach though. Personally, I think Belfort's win over Franklin was the only decent win by this group.
4 fights in Pride compared to 1. And both guys have spent the majority of their time in the UFC.. As I said, ALMOST the same.
When was the last time you sat down and watched some pride fights? please tell me you are not recalling from memory. I watched a bunch of "Best of Pride" last night and I can only tell you what I saw, and it wasn't pretty.
