Floyd says enough of fighting cans, lightweights and over the hill old men I want to prove my greatness and I live for challenges. Calls out Hagler and goes up to 160 lbs to fight him like a man. What happens ?
Marvin is verbally offended by Roger at the weigh-in and refuses to go through with the fight on a point of principle, leaving Floyd as the most undefeatesaged figter of all time.
You're not as crazy as I thought you were :bears: But don't mind this mismatch too much Sly. It's not fair to Floyd. I mean Hagler was 13 pounds heavier. It's like Floyd fighting a lightweight...
Floyd would frustrate Hagler and take some rounds, but not enough to win. I'm thinking an 10-5, type affair, which would pretty much suck and consist of Floyd making Hagler look worse than he is for the most part without doing quite enough to take rounds. Floyd is too crafty to be stopped or dominated, IMO, even given the size difference, especially since Hagler would probably box Floyd way more than he ought to & generally play into his hands.
I hear you to a certain extent. I just think that at 160 Floyd would be noticeably slower and less mobile and as such Hagler would be able to get to him more easily. If Floyd could be as mobile and fast at 160 as he was at 154 then I agree he lasts the distance, frustrating Hagler quite a bit in the process, but a slower and less mobile Floyd would fold to Marvin at some point in the later stages IMO. Mind you we shouldn't forget that Floyd is one tough SOB and very cagey and crafty in there, so you could be right.
There's no rule saying he has to bulk up to 160. He didn't bulk up to 154 against Oscar. I'd imagine Floyd would probably weigh about 153 odd. Hagler usually came in the ring at 160 odd, he isn't a modern middleweight like Martinez who's a lightheavyweight by the time you exchange punches with him.
Depends if Hagler can make a fight shortening dent in Floyd with single shots. Because you aren't landing combos on Floyd, especially when you don't throw at an especially high volume or tend to throw in bunches to begin with. A young Hagler might well stop Floyd, with that very underrated handspeed he had - a mid to late 80s Hagler isn't gonna.
A fat Floyd might get stopped maybe...doubt it though. Floyd's been hurt like...twice in his career. And both he recovered very quickly. Odd that Floyd'd be stopped, but guys like Calzaghe who was dropped by Old Hopkins and Old Jones of all people are constantly cited as having a great chin..:scratcher: Ray Leonard beat Hagler after a long layoff and being a WW....is this the same Hagler that Leonard beat?
Sorry to beat what some might perceive as a dead horse - but the change in weigh ins makes the designations 'welterweight' & 'middleweight' distortive elements in analysing this. Actually, Hagler would weigh the same in the ring as Mosley did against Floyd and be approximately the same height. Not that that's the be-all end all of real size - Hagler is markedly bigger than Shane - but if some people are imagining a MIDDLEWEIGHT that good around today and Floyd stepping up to face him, it's worth the reminder that this isn't the in-ring reality. It's a pesky point, but still a very important one.
Agreed. Hagler wouldn't be much bigger than Shane was on fight night against Floyd. Same height in any event.
It's absolutely a valid point. I just don't have quite the same regard for Mayweather, the fighter, you do.
Yet Sam Langford is a monster world beater... :bangh: Oh, and Mayweather clowns that talentless bum Ketchel....you'd be a fool to deny that.
FLoyd has ZERO fights at 160, he has been in with ZERO fighters who did anything of note at 160 he gets his ass handed to him I can not believe how insane some people have gotten around here
:atu: WHAT!?!?! You keep avoiding the question in the other thread by the way. I guess the Bert Sugar wannabes can figure that they'll just be vague instead of actually suggesting the talent level of bums like Ketchel. And those other bums C-Dogg was yelling at me about, apparently those flailing, slow ass white dudes made Jones Jr look "not so special". One of them was named Lazarovich or some shit. :atu:
Hagler (albeit and older version) took 11 rounds to stop that bum Mugabi. In his prime he couldn't stop Duran who was no bigger or more elusive than Mayweather (or tougher, to be honest). No guarantee that Hagler stops Floyd from what we've seen of both fighters. You are the insane one.
