Machida is preparing for a fight. That's why he had the headgear and Anderson doesn't. Good technique from Lyoto though.
At the worst, he is top 10 in the division. Let's not forget, this is a guy that absolutely horsewhipped the top UFC contender at 205, Rashad Evans. I'll admit, he slipped further with the very fearful performance against Rampage, but I still don't know 5 guys I would pick to clearly beat him. And oddly, there is speculation that his UFC roster spot is on the line against Couture. 4 loses in a row, with a sometimes very boring style earns you a very short rope I guess. I can't see him actually losing to Couture, but if he somehow did, the UFC's loss would be a monumental gain for Strikeforce.
I think Machida is done. I think the Shogun fights especially the knockout ruined him. You saw how scared he was of Rampage. Don't get me wrong he still EASILY KO's Randy.
I did not, actually. I saw Machida fighting the way he usually fights, and finally doing the most damage in the fight by stunning Rampage with a straight left and almost finishing him.
It seemed to me like Lyoto started to get a little bit of his mojo back in the 3rd round of the fight with Rampage. He nailed Rampage and had him in all sorts of trouble. He was more aggressive as well. In the end, it was a close fight that literally could have gone either way. I thought Rampage won but only because of the shitty way MMA is scored.. But Machida is far from done.
Ya in the third he did really good but the first 2 rounds he did nothing. He sleepwalked for 10 minutes scared to engage.
Yeah, but at the end of the fight I always ask myself who won the "fight". Rampage did NOTHING to WIN the fight. At least Machida landed a big shot and then went hard for the armbar in the third. To me, dismal rounds like the first should be scored even.
