i'm a big wanderlai fan, but that was one of the most pathetic excuse I have ever heard. Makes me question his mental make up. Does he wants to fight or make friends ?? At this stage of his career, I'm afraid it's more of tha latter.
I think it is just a high risk/low reward situation and that at this point in his career, Wanderlei just wants big fights. Kind of lame, but can't blame him, and he's earned that right IMO.
silva hasnt been the same since coming to ufc. when was the last time he waved to the fans during the fight (while losing nonetheless) and was all smiles after a loss? he has that 'win or lose, i give it all' mentality but recently, it seems like the winning part isn't really important to him.
It's a risk/reward equation for Wandy. Let's be honest, if he knocked out Brian Stann it would do little for him in terms of advancing his ranking. Scared though? I find it hard to believe from a guy that's waded straight into danger so MANY times during his career without ever batting an eyelash. Since when is STann a big crowd favorite? Sure he won some fans with the destruction of Leben and he has the whole purple heart thing going on, but it's not like he's in the Forrest Griffin or even Rich Franklin category of fan favourites. (yet, he had no problems fighting Franklin, or even a guy like Bisping who has a big following overseas).
I would give him what he wants, fights against the top of the division. It would earn him his ticket right out of the UFC
