Diazs' recent resume is better than Overeem. Besides, Diaz isn't being touted as the greatest fighter in the world.
Overeem. End of thread. The potential is there, but he's still got to prove what he can do and do it against top opponents. The GP should tell us where he's really at.
For everyone saying overeem what would you like to see him do? I agree his resume isnt that deep but at this current point he might be one of the best heavyweights along with cain, there are not too many fights he can fight outright that would "prove" he is the best aside from cain anyhow ill say jake shields
Wow.... Overeem isn't overrated, but Jake Shields is. Yeah, Shields has only ripped off 15 straight wins without a loss over the last 6 years include beating Okami, Condit, Pyle, Thompson, Daley, Lawler, Miller, Henderson and Kampmann. Meanwhile Overeem has lost to every GOOD fighter he's faced. You asked what he needs to do.....How about beating a good fighter???? Just saying...
I'll say Shields too, for no other reason than he is one of the most annoying, dorky, goofy looking fighters I've ever seen. Plus he is very boring, and proved what a faggot he is by landing an inside of the cuff, girly slap on Jason Milller as part of that "brawl" after the Henderson fight.
He doesn't have to do anything for us to think he is overrated. His record doesn't warrant being considered one of the best Heavies out there.
shields has a decent resume over B level fighters but he hasnt really beatin anyone great if he beats GSP things will change but i think he will get destroyed overeem is beating who he can outside of cain i guess, my point was hes at the top of the divison with cain but there arnt too many people worth fighting
crazy talk he beat the best of the best in pride, and seems to of got his shit together and will probably continue to do so in the ufc
I somewhat agree, but only because Shogun is generally considered a top 5 P4P right now despite the fact that he's only really looked good in 1 of his last 5 fights. Griffin beat him. A very washed up Coleman took him to the limit. Knocking out Liddell was nothing when he did it. Machida is a good win but the injuries Shogun has been fighting really limit his upside at this point.
Are you serious???? You do realize there are 2 guys active in Strikeforce that have wins over Overeem. He doesn't need to worry about Cain, he needs to win the rubber match with Kharitonov and get even with Werdum. And that is exactly the reason he is overrated. He hasn't beaten anyone on the level of either guy yet he is ranked ahead of them and people think he's automatically going to beat them both. He is the DEFINITION of overated..
He completely dominated Coleman. He just gassed while doing so. Also, not sure how KOing a fighter easily, then getting robbed against a so-called unstoppable champion does not equate to looking good.
Shogun is a wild card at this point. If he can regain top form, he's one of the best, and looked to be putting it together against Machida after his awful showings against Coleman and Griffin. I think throwing money down on either Rua/Jones is a risky move seeing as how no one knows what kind of shape Shogun will be in.
Yep, and that's kind of what I was trying to say. If the injuries haven't taken their toll, Shogun can be one of the best in the world. But at this point, having not fought in almost a year, Rua is a bit of a question mark.
If you think Rua looked good against Coleman, you are delusional. A Top 5 P4P fighter should not gas and look completely exhausted against a 44 year old opponent that hadn't even fought in 3 years. Hell, Randy Couture look spectacular stopping Coleman by comparison. Get real. Rua won each round and ended up stopping Coleman but he looked like utter shit in the process.
a little while ago it was Todd Duffee. A 5 second win against a Canadian lumberjack and he was the next great thing. I kind of wish he got past that other chubby guy so he could have fought Jon Jones and gotten embarrassed.
Trpl, the fact of the matter is, against Machida he looked like the old Shogun, and THAT Shogun is fucking legit, one of the very best strikers and fighters in the world. So giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is no longer injured, no way is he overrated. Realistically, it's probably Lesnar. Cain made him look like bum. A big, strong, athletic bum that doesn't like getting hit.
Machida is my boy and a win over him is a great win in my opinion. But Shogun's issue since being in the UFC has been stamina. And Machida is absolutely not a guy that pushes the pace. Shogun faded badly against Griffin and Coleman. He only went a round with Liddell. And against Machida, the pace was snail slow. As I said, I don't personally think Rua is overrated in the typical sense because the guy has a resume to kill for, but he is a question mark given 1) The layoff 2) The recent injury history 3) His stamina. I think Jones will be a solid test. Let's just see what happens.
