Mex - you say Tszyu was world class and an average champion. He lost to every elite fighter, etc etc.. well and good. Except Rios just now won *A* title (not *THE*) title (at 135, no less), and forget about being proven as an elite fighter. Based on that, how the hell are you picking Rios over Tszyu? Tszyu flattens Rios. Getting back to the topic, I think Roach is the wrong trainer for Khan. Roach is generally overrated as a trainer to begin with, and on top of that he barely spends any time with anyone who isn't Manny Pac. A tall, rangy 1-2 fighter with fast hands and a chin problem.. Manny Steward should be training Amir.
Exactly, there's no need to be childish and stupid and go "z interwebz challengzes z". No, it's nothing like that. My post was polite and mature, there was nothing "internet challenge" esque about it. Quite simply, I'm suggesting you place your picks where your mouths are. If you really think you can be condescending to me and laugh at my fight picking ability, let's see how good you are compared to me.
LG, I am well aware it's a stretch and Rios is somewhat unproven. But he's already proven some essential qualities to me, the heart and determination of a champion, along with the talent required to compete at the highest level (more talent than Plasterito ever had for example). Like I said, I think he's a complete twat just like he's little cement gloved buddy, but he can fight. And he has what Phillips and Hatton had, endurance, determination, guts, the ability to stay in Tszyu's face, land body shots, and make him fold. Regarding Roach, I don't know. All I can do is judge what I see. Results are what matters. Since joining Roach, Khan has looked like a dramatically better fighter, and this is coming from one of the 2 biggest Khan haters on the board. Be it coincidence, PEDs, or Roach's ability as a trainer, that can't be denied or dismissed.
No he isn't right. The point of this thread relates to Khoward and Bradley...it's fairly clear who picks Bradley and who picks Khoward. When they fight we'll know who picked the right horse. No matter who wins I'm curious to know how that gives credence either way as to who wins a mythical matchup between Rios and Tszyu (which is why he's getting teased in this thread). :notallthere: "However" Since he's called me a "bitch" and "called me out" it's supposed to trigger a playground style battle in deciding "who knows best." Perhaps it's me...but that's highly immature. Look at it like this...think back to the back and forth you and I had regarding Khoward last summer...despite our disagreements was there ever a time the discussion was reduced to this ridiculous level? hell, i don't hold your Khoward Fandom against you. You're entitled to have your faults. :truce:
I responded with satire; which obviously upset you. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. I should have been more respectful of the fragile nature of your pysche and difficulty in handling satirical statements and opinions that differ from yours. Brandon Rios #1 P4P All good now?
I agree Rios can fight and has a lot of determination.. but aside from him being relatively unproven against world-class opposition, the kid just gets hit too much. That doesn't bode well for him against Tszyu. As a parki I feel obliged to be a big Khan fan, but I suspect that adding Ariza had something to do with Khan's improvements.. (re: PEDs). Also, as I'd alluded to previously, Roach hasn't been training him much himself in any case. touche
You know what's absolutely hysterical about this (now that I think about it... Wasn't it Kostya Tszyu in a post-fight interview with Jim Gray who said, "Please do not be rude to me." Kostya's embedded deep within your subcnoscious. There's more to your hatred of him than meets the eye. :stir:
Trust me, you didn't hurt my feelings or upset me. I just felt you were being rude based on disagreeing with my assessment of Tsyzu, which deviates from the usual absurd nut licking and overrating. And again, I don't even particularly like Rios. I wouldn't pick Rios over Bradley, put it that way, or a prime Hatton. I just think he is a very good fighter, and well suited to making Tszyu fold.
I don't mind rudeness, I have nothing against it. I can be rude myself. If someone is rude to me, I'm going to be rude back. I treat people in kind.
By the way, I don't blame people at all for thinking it's stupid me picking Rios, afterall he is pretty unproven. You'll see though. Unless he burns out quick/becomes shot etc, he'll prove to be a very legit fighter, and pretty hard to beat. But Bradley? He is very legit and very solid. I've also presented some sound arguments for why I think Tszyu is overrated, all of them make sense and are based on facts, and all I get in return is "z you think Bradley and Rios can beat Tszyu z". :: Anyway, let's try to get back on topic and discuss little Timmy against Fencepost boy.
I'm from the US. I've been to the UK a lot though, and from my experience I'm fairly certain I would be annoyed to death by Amir Khan irl. Nevertheless, parki pride..
Pride in what? Ireland will do you in cricket next. Then there will be war in Peshawar. Actually there already is a war in Peshawar but thats a pure coincidence. Vickets!! Vickets!!! I Vant to see some Vickets!!!
This is the problem I see. He's admitted to not being 100% focused in the past. I get the sense that he's the type of guy who will eventually backslide in preparation and that will be his undoing.
Possibly, but hopefully success/money/recognition spur him on to be more focused etc. I say hopefully, but I swear, I'm not even a Rios fan. He is undeniably a fun fighter to watch though, so win or lose, he'll be someone fun to have around on the world stage, and better for us as viewers if he gives it 100%. Loadedgloves, I was just trying to ascertain whether you were a UK parki Wideboy :: Funnily enough, because the UK has a pretty big Pakistani contingent, that's where I would have assumed you were from, rather than the US. Anyway Musze, why have you backtracked slightly on Khan? I remember you being at least as much of a hater as me and Hut Hut.
I'm not a FOB, so I don't really care much about cricket. Most American Desis are even less aware of it than I am (I know the mechanics/rules of the game, have played it some, and have watched a few matches), and 99% of non-Desi Americans have no idea that the Cricket World Cup is going on right now. (Side note: my grandparents on both sides left what is now Pakistan prior to Partition, so I'm not a "real" parki anyway - it's complicated).
My hate for Khoward remains as true today as it was last summer...I just think he beats Bradley...which of course has gotten me labelled as a "Bradley hater." I was all over Khoward for initially looking to fight lightweights after beating non-punching Malignaggi. The basis of my gripe with him (and the focus of my debate with Slice) was his not fighting Maidana (his mandatory). he fought Maidana and won...doesn't mean I think he's a good fighter (he isn't) but I can't knock him for taking a fight i wanted to see him in.
