Who took shots from hell and was still standing?

They did not necessarily have to win the fight. They just took some hellacious shots and was still standing.

Ray Mercer against Tommy Morrison; before the knockout, Ray took some serious leather.

Tex Cobb was butchered by Holmes but were those hellacious shots?

 

Chuvalo against Foreman and Frazier

 

Jorge Castro, against John David Jackson and Roy Jones.

 

Ibeabuchi and Tua

 

Lamon Brewster took many hard shots before toppling Wlad in their first fight.

Tyson took some leather in both fights with Ruddock

Ali took some bombs from Shavers

 

Augie Sanchez against Johnson.

 

whitaker took some flush shots vs. tito late in the fight that would've KOed most opponents.

mentioned in another thread and it's no mercer-morrison barrage but how admirable was it that Ike Quartey stayed on his feet and NEVER stopped throwing punches back (arm punches, sure) against DLH in that 12th round? I still love that fight, I think it is a bit underrated

 

Zeljko Mavrovic against Lennox. Tyson crumbled from much less

 

Juan LaPorte in virtually any fight you want to see him in against a puncher... he wasn't a Tex Cobb or Chuvalo where he has no defense and just occassionally wings a shot here or there

Which would you rather absorb? shots that you can see coming or at least you expect you will have to absorb? or shots where you are TRULY countered, hit clean and hard and totally defensless at impact?

Juan Laporte took shots like that his whole career and never touched the canvas... thats more impressive to me than a guy who isn't going to generally take blind shots because he is EXPECTING to get hit

Pryor took the definitive shot from hell in his first fight with Arguello & withstood it. Unforgettable moment. Pryor's head snapped upward to a degree reminiscent of a Pez dispenser.

"My head went back & I could see the lights in the ceiling..." ::

One of those, "Fvck me," moments, for sure.

 

Briggs vs Vitali... I still haven't recovered from the shots he took in that fight.

Lennox even landed a dozen of his patented hold and hit uppercuts but Mavrovic took them all while Frank Cappucino missed them all:clapagain:

 

I think Lewis held the guy's neck/head on approximately 88.2% of the uppercuts he landed during his career.

Mavrovic took crazy shots in that fight, especially that bomb late in the 11th round.

Mayorga stuck his chin out for Trinidad and took a huge left hook

Margarito took an absolute beating from both Pac and Cotto

 

Saad Muhammad took and uppercut like that from marvin Johnson in their first fight.

I also nominate Saad in the 8th round of his first fight against that Mexican fellow.
