the talk of martinez vs pacquiao is amusing. pacquiao doesnt fight guys coming off a string of impressive victories. not in YEARS
I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but he is. Fight in and fight out, Pacquiao has proven himself better than Duran.
Yeah, as if past primmed versions of Cotto, Marg, Hatton, and a corpse of DLH can compare to a prime Leonard. Hell Duran's beating of Palimino was more impressive to me than Pac's beating of Cotto. Duran was the first one to thrash Palimino like that. Manny was fighting a Cotto that had tasted a brutal ass whuppin before.
Not even close. I'm one of the biggest Pacquiao "huggers" on this board, but Duran's decisive win over not just prime, but peak, undefeated Leonard trumps anything Pacquiao has done. Pacquiao's resume more or less stack's up to Duran's from the sheer amount of weights he's transcended and amazing performances, but Duran's win over Leonard is SIGNIFICANTLY better than any single win of Manny's. Plus at 135, Duran would have beaten Pacquiao. Though Duran was a natural lightweight, and Pacquiao a natural featherweight. If they were both natural 130 pounders, the fight would be extremely close, but I think Duran is tough, mean, and versatile enough to win a violent decision. Duran actually matches up pretty well with Pacquiao. Extremely aggressive, quick to pull the trigger, great counter puncher, hard to hit, and great body puncher. Regarding Pacquiao against Martinez, I don't care much about the fight because if Martinez wins it doesn't mean much. I don't like fights like that. Manny fighting at welterweight is a tall order, fighting at middleweight is just silly.
Pac vs Martinez would be like Pac-Oscar. Sergio would be extremely weight drained . Little Pac doesn't fight guys in their primes at comfortable weights any more.
Martinez said after the Williams rematch that he would fight Pac, May or Cotto at a catchweight of 156....I think by now he would give some more..and have the fight at 154. With Cotto, Angulo, Williams, Pavlik, etc...Martinez has plenty of options he doesn' t need Pac at 150 and doesn't need to waste his time calling out Mayweather who won't fight him at any weight....
Martinez is crazy if he thinks guys like Pacquia or Cotto are going to be willing to fight him. If and when they are, it will mean their time as elite fighters is over. Martinez has two choices basically. Ride the HBO wave he's on and make a nice check for fighting the likes of Kirkland, Angulo and Chavez Jr. possibly. Or, make little more, if at all, fighting the likes of Bute, Ward, or Froch, all guys who would have significant size advantages. Why not a rubber match with P-Will?
I think it means absolutle jack shit what weights they fought at when they were freaking 13. This bullshit of "Pac was a light straweight so he is so great" needs to stop. Seriously.
Cottos time as an "elite" fighter is over. Williams time as an "elite" fighter is also over. Pacquaio will try to drain Martinez, and should not be allowed to do so. Floyd is not interested in fighting anyone who is remotely capable of beating him. Martinez future, for me, lies in a catch-weight with somebody from the Super-6.
