Size about equal. Bowe punched faster and put up better combinations, Foreman hit harder. Both had fine jabs, neither fought well going back. Both could be hit pretty easily, Foreman had the better chin, Bowe had more courage and better stamina. Neither was champ for long but both were at their best formidable fighters Who wins and how?
Foreman within 5. And I say that as a Bowe fan, and someone who cant stand that prick Foreman. But Bowe is just too easy to hit to beat the early 70's Foreman.
Could be, but considering how close Lyle came of beating Foreman and how prime Bowe was never outfought, I am not sure. I am on the fence with this
I hate to defend Big George, but menally Foreman wasnt the same after the Ali fight. Bowe more than likely beats the Foreman that fought Lyle. I didnt bring up the Tubbs fight for Bowe. I assumed we meant both at thier BESTS. Meaning, the Bowe from the first Holy fight vs the Foreman that destroyed Frazier and Norton.
I am not sure about if Foreman was different fighter post-Ali. It is certainly possible, but impossible to tell for sure because Lyle was the first big puncher who could match Foreman in size. Bowe was still green and inexperienced against Tubbs, but I don't see that fight telling much about this since Tubbs and Foreman were opposites of each other
Yeah, it's not really fair to bring up the Lyle fight. Still, I don't think this is an easy fight either way. I just can't help but think about how easy Bowe was to hit vs. Evander. Gotta go with George, but if Bowe is still standing after the early rounds it could get mighty interesting.
You started this topic, no? Didn't you say "primes". I'm assuming that "Primes" means "Peak"...not just prime in terms of age. The Foreman of the first Frazier and Norton fights would have wiped out Lyle with no problems, IMO.
Right, but it is a Kid Dynamitish take to claim that a fighter is in his prime for the one fight he won in two rounds and nothing counts after that. As I already said, I am not sure if there was a huge difference between Foreman of Norton and Lyle fights
A fighter is seldom the same after a damaging (psychologically) knockout defeat. Also he had recently come back from a 2 year post-defeat retirement. Be reasonable. Going to the other extreme of Kid Dynamites position doesn't make you any smarter than he was...
The first time I saw Lennox Lewis be the smaller man was against Michael Grant..we know how that turned out. My thinking is...George will react just fine...
2 years was actually 15 months. Sure, a long layoff but not something unheard. And as I said, a heavy loss can affect a fighter but how much it did is anyone's guess. Where in your opinion was this damage apparent: was Foreman slower than usually, didn't he go forwards as much, did he have lesser chin or what was it? Again, it is possible that he was a different fighter but I didn't see any big difference, against Lyle he faced a new type of opponent so we don't have a good comparison and after the fight Foreman went on to produce solid performances
Bowe would be the biggest and most dangerous fighter Foreman ever fought. The difference in actual skills is pretty big here. Bowe fucks him up worse than Jimmy Young did.
Bowe's just too hittable. I won't dispute with anyone he has the right blend of power & skill, but he's a brawler with no D & he was certainly hurt by lesser punchers. In a firefight, Foreman has the heavier artillery & the sturdier whiskers.
Foreman was KO'd and dropped by two non-punchers in Ali and Young. Most overrated chin in the sport's history. He benefited from having a great offense as his defense and facing fighters much smaller than him.
Kid Dyamite lives!! :: You forgot to mention that Foreman was also "a smaller, less powerful and less durable version of Bonecrusher Smith"
No, I think I'm satisfied with the part where Foreman was KNOCKED out by a guy who rarely knocked out ANYONE. Then dropped by a BUM light hitter. His chin was mediocre at best.
Sounds like you have never actually seen, and know next to nothing about, the fights and fighters you are running your mouth about. No big surprise there. BoxRec is not your friend, it really isn't. "Hi..I'm TLC and I'm a BoxRec addict..."
