Not without a huge amount of effort, evidently.

how much more could it really be? how many boxing websites are actually profitable? and how many are actually profitable to more than one or two guys?

And that's your opinion. The owners have a different take on it. We do think about the site, but if we sold the site itself, then the new owner would be in a position to do whatever they wanted, including getting rid of the forum or deciding who stays and who goes in terms of forum members.

There's a fair bit of truth that we are all too busy to run the front page the way that Cupey did, but at least the forum is kept the way it is for the fans. That could change quickly and unpleasantly if we sold the site. We're reluctant at best to change that.

    Exactly.

What's really to gain by selling?

A very small amount of money, probably just another average, half arsed boxing website that doesn't make much money and potentially no forum.

    I say it's a stupid idea.

Keep it as it is. The running costs are basically nothing, and we have an awesome little boxing community.

Why does it need to be anything more?

I don't know that it would take a huge amount of effort to keep the front page at least moderately up to date if it was actually easier to update.

I don't know that it makes a big deal, but this forum's gone through some dead periods that perhaps wouldn't have been as slow if there was more up-to-date content.

I understand what you are saying Buddy. You know i meant not disrespect. But when i say sell, i dont mean to some stranger. I know interested people on this board that could would take it off your hands and keep the forum the same.

But all in all, its just takes more commitment than it seems we have right now.

We just need a bit of "inside scoop" from time to time. Things are fine here.

I took no disrespect, and it's true that if the front page was updated daily, we might attract more members. As it is, and Nobleart can attest to this, I wanted to keep the forum open for the fans.

I probably even know who you're talking about, but I was there when Boxingpress/SecondsOut was sold to the British investors. From the beginning we were told that nothing would change except that there would be more activity on the frontpage.

Before too long, you couldn't mention a certain promoter's name or you'd get threatened with banishment, then they brought in their own guys to run the forum, and THEN they shut it down entirely.

The first thing we would want to do is make sure that doesn't happen...EVER! Yes, we could have more writers, but it's not worth it to me if the forum gets slowly phased out or the members get hassled if they complain about a boxing writer, promoter, fighter, or other personality related to the sport.

The forum isn't perfect, but it works. I think we've been quite hands-off and ironed out most of the moderating issues (even in cases where I disagreed often with this person or that person). I just don't want to see the forum lose its autonomy. People can criticize, justly or unjustly, whoever they want in boxing without being kicked off the site. It's not perfect but it is a lot better than the way I've seen many other forums run over the years.

I wonder how many people on here used to even check the front page boxing info back when it was regularly updated. I know I never ever did. Maybe we should take a poll on that and find out because if nobody's reading the front page is there really a point in building it up?

Nobody checks the front page because it's never updated.

That's like asking if anybody watches boxing on ABCs Wide World of Sports.

I meant back when the page was regularly updated. I guess I should have asked who used to check the front page info because that's what I meant.

I never read front page content. If an article was linked in the forum I did, otherwise no.

But if there was interviews with Fighters, breaking news (not just copies from Fightnews), Radio Shows, Highlights, RBR, Good Articles, etc. You would check the front page.

Well speaking for myself I'd say no. To be honest I'm not even half the boxing fan I used to be. I barely check the boxing news sites that I used to follow even once a month now. The last fight I saw in a long long time was the Martinez fight, but I must admit I enjoyed that fight immensely. Made me feel like the old boxing fan in me was coming back.

I don't. I come here for the people that post in the forum. I watch very little boxing these days due to long working hours.

I guess you could say I get my news from the forum.

Actually, let me clarify something. I'm not saying the front page shouldn't be updated, just that I'm unlikely to ever read it. I'm probably in the minority.

I'm more likely to give money to keep this place open than read a front page.

We're in a similar boat my friend. Only it's not so much long hours as opposed to no HBO and no Showtime. I don't get how guys not from America can consistently follow the sport without those 2 networks.

In Australia it's extremely slim pickings for boxing fans. I also don't have cable where I live so I'm basically screwed.

It would really depend who does it, for me. It has to be more than just original content. It would have to be high quality to interest me.

Honestly, fightnews and this forum. I stopped reading Maxboxing after the way they covered the Margarito handwrap issue.

I go to boxingscene to read Jake's work.

There isn't much for top shelf boxing coverage out there, IMO.

Curious how PPV sales went. I don't know what Arum's target number is (other than his saying that he expects a favorable number "for a show like this") but so far, the results have fallen way short of the hype. The event was nothing more than a money grab, but not a lot of money to be grabbed so far.

Yeah, I don't imagine the ppv numbers were all that great.
