A more reasonable fight for Sergio Martinez....one he can win...the over-hyping of him is going a bit overboard w/ he would beat Hopkins and Jones at 160 talk...

TWO FIGHTS ago...would any one(excluding the trolls Boss&TLC) give Martinez a chance in hell vs. Hop or Jones? HELL NO....

Two fight ago Martinez was being KO'ed or losing a decision to Trinidad at 154...but Ko'ed Williams and beat Dzinikizinshit makes him an over night destroyer.

I'd STILL pick Tito to KO Martinez at 154.

As for Martinez-Winky.... at 154 in Winky's prime I'd slightly favor Wright.

At 160, I pick Martinez without thinking twice about it.

    Not a chance in hell.

Tito would get Winky'd against the current Martinez, and possibly even stopped late.

When are people going to realise that Tito was a borderline scrub at elite level?

For a guy who talks more shit than a little bit about Tito, and Tszyu, you have SOME nerve having Corrales as your avatar.

Chico wasnt in the same league as Tszyu, or Tito.

Whether he is or isn't is completely irrelevant Xplosive.

You can like someone without thinking they are a godlike fighter.

Case on point - you and Pawel Wolak.

Wolak truly IS a scrub at the top level though. To say Tito was is simply an incredibly IGNORANT statement.

And given that Martinez is hittable, and often has lulls, I think eventually Tito would have caught him.

Again, we're not comparing Tito and Wolak.

We are simply establishing the fact that liking a fighter, as I do Chico, and thinking the fighter you like is godlike, don't go hand in hand.

At world level Trinidad was OK, at elite level, he was a borderline scrub. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise.

His size/power/accuracy enabled him to crush a lot of guys at world level, but when he fought elite fighters, he was basically made to look like David Tua. An inept, plodding, scrub. This isn't opinion, it's fact. He didn't win a round against Hopkins or Wright, and only won a few rounds against Oscar when Oscar started running.

Tito, Tszyu, and Hamed are actually very similar in that regard. They can look good against average world level fighters, but against fighters who were too skilled or powerful or tough, they were out of their depth.

That's why they are the 3 most overrated fighters of the modern era. They get talked about as elite fighters, but they weren't.

To be honest, I find the notion that Tito beats Martinez to be absurd. I actually think Martinez is an overall better fighter than Winky.

Winky is more defensive, but Martinez is much faster, and also has a very good jab, and more power. He'd do a fucking number on Tito.

I'd consider prime Vargas to be an ELITE fighter.

DLH "beat" Tito(though neither deserved to win) but Oscar was more than an elite fighter, he was great.

And of course, he got his ass kicked by one of the greatest/best fighters to ever put on gloves... so theres no shame there.

The only loss which really hurts him is Wright... but that was hardly a prime Tito in there.

Tito was a great fighter, period. Was he overrated during his prime? Hell yes! Was he flawed? Hell yes! But a great fighter none the less.

This is how I see it as well, though with a little more distance at 154.

As you may remember, I was a big fan of Vargas. But he wasn't an elite fighter.

He was a very good fighter, but not an elite one. He's a classic example of a guy always falling short against top opponents. Apart from Winky. That fight could have gone either way.

That is Trinidad's best win though.

To be honest I don't think it would have mattered when Trinidad faced Winky or Hopkins, the result would have been the same. Against a patient, crafty boxer, Tito was completely out of his depth, and couldn't do anything.

Regarding the topic at hand. I would pick Martinez by decision, close but clear. I simply think he is a better fighter than Winky.

At 154, Martinez gets knocked into the fucking stratosphere against Trinidad, Wright takes away his jab, negates his straight left (his only even remotely impressive weapon) and schools him

At 160, neither of those guys was as good, but they'd (especially Winky) still be good enough to be live underdogs

So a guy who was hurt and knocked down against Paul Williams is going to be able to survive Trinidad????.... I struggle to think how he would do it.

Trinidad knocks the shit out of Martinez.

Winky clearly decisions him at a 154.

He doesn't have to. Martinez is no defensive genius. The guy has always gotten hit but he's athletic so it deceives people.

He wouldn't avoid Trinidad's punches. And Martinez himself fights nothing like Hopkins. He's there to be hit. And Trinidad would hit him. And hurt him.
