If this fight comes off, it would only be weeks after Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares compete in the final of the Showtime tournament April 23rd, meaning scheduling shouldn't be a problem as far as having the winner fight the winner.

Would be more direct way of going about unifying the titles than a huge tournament.

I think its a bit of a size mismatch.

Mayorga was sometimes upwards of 160lbs fighting WWs.


I think it's ridiculous how much weight Donaire appears to pick up overnight.

He and the Ukranian dude looked like they were separated by an original 8 weight class.

Montiel was quite a bit heavier.

 

Maybe, but Donaire's got such a massive frame he looks bigger.

His height alone is the height of most LWs.

Montiel also said he had trouble making weight so I figure he's another oversized 118lber.

Oh I'm sure Nonito will be going back to court... but he/his wife have a legit case in citing breach of contract.

His lack of activity in 2008 was due to his own legal battles with Shaw. But 2009, was Top Rank's doing. They were intent on pushing the Pinoy Power series but not offering up much of anything. He didn't pull out of a single fight and in fact wanted the Darchinyan rematch seemingly a lot more than did Top Rank. That played a significant part in his only fighting twice that year.

A promoter can only extend a contract when a fighter rejects a legit offer - a promoter loophole will be to offer him an undesirable situation, but on television and for above his guarantee (lessons that Vivian Harris and Joshua Clottey never seemed to learn). That wasn't the case with Donaire.

Curious to see how this plays out... other than to say it puts further distance between T/R and G. I know G couldn't wait to send out that press release.
