So Povetkin doesn't give him even more of a rooting interest? He does plenty of talking for a trainer who didn't want his fighter to fight the guy he's talking about.
Thanks for the updates Mitchell- I am serious- i appreciate anyone who takes the time to update people who don't have access to stuff. "Uncomfort Zone".....never heard of that one. I think Haye's English is a bit patchy. Haye thinks he, Haye, is some sort of an inside fighter? Haye is a long-mid range fighter who has ultilized his "quickness" to leap/step in against guys who could see stuff coming but were too past it to respond {Barrett, Ruiz}, or who were too innately slow to respond {Valuev} or were just plain shit to begin with {Maccarinelli}. Haye has never been an inside, pressure fighter, ever. He is planning on leaping in with something, over a jab, and hoping that it is enough to win. Haye has never won a fight by getting inside and staying inside.
Let me tell you about Atlas- the man is an emotive, unhinged guy with a Joe Bloggs, Yankee blue-collar dislike of all things non-American{ized}. He didn't think his man, and therefore him, could do the job vs Klitschko, but he rejoiceth in the presence of somebody he feels may do it. Atlas always sounded a moron, talking about "Dem Big Russians". You know who I think of when somebody mentions a tall, slow, powerful, predictable white guy with chin and mental issues? Kelly Pavlik. Wladimir never quit in his life.
Picking up from "hayemakers" line... Atlas: "I agre with you. You can't let him control range." Haye: "No, he's a master at doing that...you know, against someone who's slow footed...but one the thing about me, I'm very athletic, and very fast, agile, I've got good timing, I pose problems that he's never seen before." Tessitore: "Which are what?" (Joe, he just said them.) Haye: "Which is speed. Someone who's...former undisputed cruiserweight champion. Someone who's a reigning heavyweight champion...You know I want...people forget I went over to Germany to fight the 7 foot 2 Nicoaly Valuev." Tessitore: "I love...I, I...was interested in your comments when you fought Valuev as for his physical appearance...you do have the gift of gab." Haye: "I know, He was a big freak show, 7 foot 2, big hairy monster, I went over there and chopped him down [????] you know and took his title from him. Wladimir's hasn't had to do that before, he's never fought someone bigger than himself."
Wladimir doesn't necessarily fight "slow-footed" guys. As Manny Steward was saying as early as the Ray Mercer fight, Wlad has great balance. When you are always on balance, you make other guys look slow. Mike Costello, who works for the BBC, even alluded to the "arcs" of Klitschkos "sweeping" footwork. Haye gives the game away. One moment he talks about pressure, the next he talks about speed and athleticism. Haye "chopped" Valuev down? Wow I missed that. Haye hit Valuev in the neck in the 12th which caused some discombulation that Valuev recovered from- as Haye also failed to press the advantage. And what does Wlad not having fought anyone bigger have to do with anything? Does Haye really think that Wlad is some carbon-copy of Valuev?
Atlas is a headcase, and as one, he spends a lot of time talking about "mental" issues, which is somewhat interesting for a guy who struggles to collect his thoughts or put sentences together. I mean, you could probably get him to quit, mentally, if you put him in a spelling bee. But it is a little curious, his habitual talk of Europeans, considering where two of his last fighters - Muriqi and Povetkin - came from.
You forget, most of the Americans watching probably haven't seen the Valuev fight (or many, if any, of Haye's fights, other than perhaps some highlights)...meaning it's a good audience for Haye to bullshit.
I think Atlas is an honest guy. If you dropped $50 he would run after you to give it back. He's probably a decent human being. He's just emotive and emotive behaviour means you cross the line sooner or later. He got that scar down his head over a fender-bender. He put a gun to Tysons head. He had those theatrics with Moorer, on TV, and with Kirk Johnson {"monday came early, punk"}, off-TV. He rants and raves and loses the run of himself over nothing fights, which are on ESPN because they are just that. He failed with Povetkin and that leaves resentment. I think he feels that boxing has passed him by and now it is passing the broader-American scene by. I don't think he is comfortable with change and thats OK, nobody is. But it is not correct to persist in a 10 year old Urban myth about how the Klitschkos are quitters and no-jaw bums. The fight from which Klitschko got the no-heart reputation was the Purritty fight. Its odd, because Haye was rescued in the EXACT same way when he burned himself out in half-the-time versus half-a-Purritty in the shape of a 40 yoa Carl Thompson, @ 200lbs at that. George Foreman was right. Just go bring me a sandwich, Teddy.
Then shame on ESPN for entertaining the guy. What did David Haye ever do for ESPN? Did he even fight on one of their cards? Klitschko did. OK, it was a nothing fight with Phil Jackson, but he took the fight nonetheless.
That's one way of looking at it...but on the other hand, why is it ESPN2 has given more time to build up this fight than HBO? Haye's been ringside at Klitschko fights before, when he was on HBO regularly...and HBO did almost nothing to build interest in the fight stateside, then or now. Why not bring in Haye to comment on Klitschko or to get them face to face (the way HBO did with DLH-Camacho after DLH dispatched Kamau)?
Well, HBO burned their own bridges there, for reasons best known to themselves. Surely HBO would have had the cash too keep guys like Klitschko contracted and on board, and throw Haye a bone too??
Right, but I'm talking about when Povetkin fell out and Wlad went through with Rahman as the replacement. Haye was ringside for the fight, and it was about a month after he'd knocked out Barrett. I believe Lennox Lewis even said during the broadcast, that he'd just talked to Haye, who was standing near him, after the fight. Haye's a guy that can talk...it may be filled with bullshit (and, honestly, his talk about Klitschko reminds me of Rahman before the Lewis rematch)...but if you're a network trying to sell a fight, why not show some highlights of Haye-Barrett and then interview him or put him on camera next to Klitschko after he beat Rahman? That's the only interesting thing they could've done with that fight, because Rahman isn't in his class, especially at that stage after his poor showing in the Toney rematch. Mikkel Kessler is ringside for the Bute fight tonight, supposedly at the invitation of Showtime...hopefully they handle the build-up of that fight a little better (if it happens).
They would have to edit Haye vs Barrett to get the bit where he falls over the ropes, and make sure nobody in America sees it. That would kill any American interest in a Wlad vs Haye fight.
I don't think Atlas hates all things unAmerican.. Povetkin is Russian/European. Totally disagree. Atlas may be a balls out nutcase, but one thing about him is that he is and always was a tough MF.
I took your comment to mean that Atlas was someone who would quit when the going got tough in a contest.. I doubt Atlas perceived school as a challenge or a contest that he was interested in.
As I say, the academics and education side is not something I would think less of a person over. Atlas stock-and-trade is the fight game, and he has allowed personal and emotional issues to side-track him on that simple matter. It should not matter how much Teddy does or does not like the Klitschkos, Wladimir has never quit, and Atlas should not suggest otherwise, especially for the benefit of a guy like Haye.
Wlad sounds like he's taking Haye's comments in stride... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/9430033.stm Not a bad response...if he knocks Haye out. ::
Yep, I saw him say that when the Sky team called him over to do an interview. His time spent on learning English as been time well spent and he is very loose and easy in front of the camera. And yes, thats why he has to win. Must win.
Another reason why Wlad must route this Haye. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/mar/19/vitali-klitschko-odlanier-solis-heavyweight What a cunt.
Really? I'm interested to hear your breakdown of this one. Outside of a big mouth, I don't rate Haye as much better than the guys either Klit has been beating.
My Thoughts My preliminary analysis is that Haye is going to frustrate the guy early by sliding around to his left and jabbing with Wlad at times; but in this fight Wlad is going to be the one reaching in, not Haye. Wlad is used to just standing outside these guys and beating the shit out of them, but David is going to draw him into the strike zone. After a few rounds, Haye is going to nail him when he trades rights with him and this time it is going to be Sominex city for brother Klitschko once again. Karl
Maybe I need to see some more of Haye as thus far I haven't been impressed. I'll check out some more of his fights. Thanks for the breakdown.
I hope Haye doesn´t disgrace these two. :: That was some show from those two washed up 11 year old horses. If Haye shows as much effort and heart, we might get a real fight.
