Funny, but there is no one that has the tools to beat Jones on that list. Several have punchers chances but even those chances are slim given the range of Jones. Personally I want to see how Phil Davis looks against Little Nog, because I think his wrestling might be the best potential kryptonite to beat Jones. That being said, even that is a stretch considering how easily Jones dominate Bader and Hamill. Davis is a far better wrestler than those two, but Bader and Hamill looked like Jr High wrestlers compared to Jones. BUT, Davis does have far better Jiu-Jitsu than Bader or Hamill. He is not helpless on his back. Ultimately on paper, no one on the list should beat Jones.
honestly, i'm shocked that jones didnt go to a d-1 school after high school. not sure what his record was in junior college, but it seemed like he easily won the jr. college nationals and opted to pursue a career in mma than transferring to a bigger school. based on that alone and his ability to dominate ryan bader, his wrestling could be superior than what his credentials say.
Well, it's obvious that his overall grappling ability works very well in MMA. He did everything short of throwing Bader around like a rag doll. Davis is a different animal though. He is a very good MMA wrestler and has solid BJJ as well. With a little more experience, and if he dominates Nog, I would love to see Jones-Davis.
As of right now jones looks to me like the world beater shogun looked like over in pride So either hes gonna run into a bad fight style wise against some one he "shouldnt' lose to, or hes going to get hurt
Rampage doesn't have the wrestling to beat Jones. He will end up on his back real quick. Are you guys just picking guys with power in hopes that Jones has a bad chin? Seems that way.
Rampage has great takedown defense. And if he gets taken down, it'll be with technique, Jones isn't going to hit any of those ragdoll throws that he normally gets on Rampage.
Rampage was out boxed by freaking Forest Griffin. Rampage will always have a punchers chance but Jones can beat him in SO many ways. And Jackson's take down defense has been shit lately. Griffin, Evans and Machida all had him on his back. So I figure Jones takes him down without a second thought. And once there, it's elbow hell for Rampage.
No he wasn't. And Griffin and Machida got him down from strikes. He was also super gassed and undertrained when Rashad took him down. Way to watch fights.
Who said Rampage was going to beat Jones?? It's about who has the best chance to but it doesn't mean it will happen. In fact I don't think Rampage beats Jones at this stage in their careers.
Jones makes mistakes, he reminds me of Faber in that way. He does crazy shit that could leave him open, like the crazy ass spinning elbow from the clinch. Who does that? My guess is someone eventually catches him while doing something like that. Like the first Faber vs Brown fight. It's cool to see guys do shit like that, but he really should be working on being a more controlled fighter. Getting rid of some of his ridiculous moves would make him a better fighter. IMO
so what if he did? griffin vs. bonnar was what? back in 2006? 5 years is plenty to pick up on any sport.
That is ridiculous. I have watched MMA WAY longer than that, but that's neither here nor there. He's just mad cause he's getting clowned like the little fan boy he is. Typical sherdog behavior
i've actually never posted in that forum, but is that what that board is like? the only time i've gone to one of their threads is to look up local gyms in my area.
it's a giant pissing contest. Everyone claims to have watched MMA longer than everyone else and everyone acts like an elitist prick. Just think of thousands of TLC's posting in a forum and you have Sherdog.
It actually almost happened. Jones tried a spinning elbow and shogun wrapped Him up and tried to take his back. Couldn't capitalize though.
Great points. Didn't he even try a spinning elbow or kick that basically gave Rua his back standing at one point? Rua, like most, couldn't do anything with it because Jones has far superior strength and grappling. Brown had a considerable strength advantage over Faber. I don't see that happening with anyone at 205 with Jones.
I thought he might be in trouble for a second there when he basically gave up his back. Also did you notice Shogun really wanted to get a hold of one of jones' skinny little chicken legs? Jones knew it too.
