Guess it all went to pay his medical bills.

Briggs filed in NY Supre Court alleging "breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, unjust enrichment and breach of contract against Gregory D. Cohen, Shelly Finkel and Barry Honig, and their boxing and entertainment promotional company, Empire Sports & Entertainment."

Most healthcare is basically free in Germany as long as you have a standard insurance. Some emergency transportation costs of 10 euros, another 10 euros for emergency admission and another 10 euros per hospital day, for a max of 28 days a year. So the max costs for all his medical care should be 300 Euros.

I was actually joking about that part.

Briggs had no business being in a heavyweight title fight, but he should get paid more than $25,000 for getting his ass kicked.

Did he have standard health insurance?

It does seem that Jacobi and Wacobi really cleaned this guy out.

Don't. You can bet your bottom dollar that every expense will be detailed and filed to the last cent. If they gave Shannon a nickel for a soda it will be in there, deducted.

Which is really the true thrust of your post. You don't give a fuck about Briggs.

Not if his contract states otherwise.

In boxing- you get what you negotiate, not what you deserve.

I know, just saying he shouldn´t be deducted a lot from the hospital visit, not that I wouldn´t past his financial advisors that they put in 20000 dollars as hospital expenses or something like that.

Just reading the documents filed to Court- Briggs appears to have had a pre-existing arrangement with Cohen which pre-dates the Klitschko fight by almost 1 year.

    24. On September 22, 2010, Cohen forged Briggs’
signature on a bout agreement which purported to give
Empire promotional rights to a bout engaged in by Briggs
with Klitschko on October 16, 2010 for a purse of $100,000.

    27. Cohen on behalf of Finkel, Honig, Empire and
Holdings promised Briggs a purse of $500,000 plus $50,000
training expenses plus $200,000 in additional compensation
to participate in the bout against Vitali Klitschko on
October 16, 2010, and Briggs agreed to participate in the
bout in reliance on that promise.

    29. Following the bout with Klitschko, the defendants
denied that they had agreed to pay Briggs $750,000 for the
    Klitschko bout.

    30. In addition, the defendants contended that all
the payments that had been made to Briggs as his salary for
services to Golden Empire and to Empire were actually
advances, which defendants were entitled to “recoupâ€￾ from
the purse owed to Briggs for the bout with Klitschko.

    31. Defendants thus have understated the purse they
promised to pay Briggs for the bout with Klitschko and
claim that the understated purse has already been paid.

    32. Defendants have refused to provide Briggs with
copies of the documents that purport to justify this ripoff.
 such un-parliamentary language right in the middle of it...sorry.

The gist of it seems to be that they {the defendants} claim they put money up in advance, and then offered him $100,000 to fight Klitschko in addition.

He claims he took the fight on a promise from them that he would get $750,000, and that he never signed a contractual agreement for $100,000 in the first place, that his signature was forged.

He also insinuates, in the proceedings, that Finkel acting as advisor to the KLitschkos, which he has done for some time, constituted a clash of interests.

Critically, he claims they won't give him copies of his documents.

It is an interesting one.....$100,000 to fight Vitali in Germany seems decidedly light. Throw in advances, which they say they paid him, and it rises, of course, but by how much?

Its hard to see Briggs take the fight with Klitschko for just $100,000

It also raises the question: why deny you promised to give him $750,000 and then claim in the next sentence that the money you promised him was made up of X, Y and Z?

There's a few updates on Finkel and Empire Boxing over at BoxingScene today...supposedly the president of hte company, Greg Cohen, has left and is trying to take some of the boxers with him as he starts his own promotional company.

I saw Finkel finking about in the background after the Solis "affair".

I don't want anybody to get ripped off but Briggs would be best served retaining Counsel and keeping quiet, while diligently going about his business.

But I hear from Fox News that America has the best healthcare in the world and that they are fair and balanced, so it must be true.

You, sir are probably misinformed by the liberal media, and his medical costs were actually 80% of his purse.

And by the way teachers, firefighters and policemen are breaking this country financially with their high paying contracts while CEO's are being the most patriotic Americans of all.

I would think that they would've gotten insurance for him as standard practice for bout-related injuries, at the least.

If he was, Briggs would have made a lot more than 25K. Ask James Toney, he probably made twice as much in the UFC as he did in his last boxing match. Toney made 500K for 5 seconds of "Work"

But then, James Toney's last boxing match wasn't against Vitlai Klitschko.

Yeah, let's see, who has more of a following in their respective sports...Randy Couture or Damon Reed?

Couture-Toney was actually a selling point of that pay per view.

    Was Toney-Reed on ppv?

It could be that Briggs is talking bullshit, who knows maybe he accepted a payment up front on the understanding that he undertook his own medical insurance. We don't know.

Its bad enough that people are complaining about the HW division but are also able to spin the matter into some sort of quasi-racial crime where these evil Jews bring the unsuspecting African-American to Nazi Germany {all 6'4" and 260lbs of his steroid-marinated self} to be beaten by the even more evil and chemically-enhanced Robotoid from the "East" for the entertainment of well-dressed Reichlings.

We already got a hint of this in the papers after the Solis fight. In England, there was a need to erase the stench of Haye vs Audley, not by organizing a proper fight and giving people their moneys worth, but rather by waiting for something to go wrong in the Solis fight. In other words, German shit smelled so bad that the English shit couldn't be smelled at all. Its real feudal crap. A "Your fuck up is worse than our fuck up" mentality played out by dishevelled journalists plying a tabloid existence.

Audley vs Haye was a farce on paper, it was a farce in the ring and it was a farce after the fact, when Haye conceded having engaged in some sort of gambling shenannigans.

At least Solis was undefeated and came to fight.
