I think Casamayor pulls off a mild upset with a tight, neat display. I think I'll be one-out on this one, though.
The Morales who beat Pacquiao would get the win, I think. I don't think he was ever that good again though, so anything after than and Casamayor's chances grow.
Yep, that was the best 130lb Morales by far. That version of Morales slaps Hole around the ring like the dirty little Cuban whore he is.
Casamayor was actually outboxed by Corrales in the rematch and Freitas. He could appear slick at times, and he could box, but overall as a boxer he's pretty overrated. Casamayor's assets are toughness/craftiness/dirtiness. Morales beat Pacquiao that night who is in another league to Casamayor (even that rawer Pacquiao fresh from featherweight). As usual Morales would make it closer than it could be, but he would beat Casamayor.
Yeah I'd agree he'd win. At that point Morales still had extremely quick feet, too quick for Joel I think. I just think you went a little overboard with the 'slaps him around the ring' thing as if it'd be easy. It's more likely a 7-4-1 type affair. Casa was no slouch, noone ever beat him easily.
I can't disagree with that, I just happen to hate Casamayor ;) As much as I've always disliked him though, he is a tough little bastard, and yeah, nobody has ever beaten him easily.
Casamayor's dirtiness is a HUGE reason why I'd give him such a good shot at winning... Morales was a hot head and a dummy, you can't tell me he wouldn't be drawn in to that shit and distracted As for Corrales outboxing Casamayor, I think it was more a case of Casamayor fighting the wrong fight, thinking that all he had to do was land one good shot and he'd be able to hurt and finish Corrales, that had a lot to do with how that fight played out... if it had been a 15 rounder, he would have knocked Corrales out
Corrales was the one who was on his way to stopping him in their first fight. The reason Casamayor fought the "wrong fight" and let Corrales outbox him is because he was fearful of Corrales' power. So he spent most of the fight standing around and showboating. Even when Casa knocked down Chico, it was obvious Chico wasn't at all hurt. Chico stayed disciplined and kept jabbing because he knew he was well ahead on the cards.. but I think if Casa had really gotten scrappy at any point, or if Corrales had been in danger of losing the fight, Corrales would've wound up flattening him.
All well & good to say, but facts are Corrales had three cracks at the man & only managed the one success.
what nonsense... they were BOTH hurt in that fight... Corrales wasn't clearly "on his way" to doing any such thing The reason Casamayor fought the wrong fight is because he thought A) he could hurt Diego easily and B) he failed to adjust to Corrales's uncharacteristic caution
*shrug* I don't count their third fight Corrales was cut and dropped, but I don't think he was on queer street at any point. But he dropped Casamayor hard, and Casamayor was clearly hurt bad.
I was a Chico fan, yes, but I honestly don't recall him being hurt against Casa in their first fight. It's been 8 or so years since I've seen the fight, so I will allow that memory loss and my bias may be conspiring to give me a different version of events.
