It was robbed for best picture. I'll maintain til I die that NCFOM is an overrated movie! There Will Be Blood to me is easily a better. Both DDL & Paul Dano's acting alone blows away the entire NCFOM movie.

Not enough to ruin the movie. Most people miss the point of that ending. It wasn't Moss' movie, it was Chigurh's.

NCFOM was a great movie with lots of replay value. TWBB was the kind of movie you might not like on the first viewing (as in my case) but it got better on the 2nd viewing and likewise has lots of replay value.

I like NCFOM better. People try to downplay it, but there was good action, good dialogue, great flow, and outstanding characters. TWBB had the same things but IMO NCFOM was better and I won't knock someone who feels TWBB was better as long as they don't try to downplay that NCFOM was a great movie as well.

Pardon my ignorance, but NCFOM = ?

I really felt TWBB was hugely disappointing.

hardly one of the bigger robberies in oscar best picture history - at least ncfom is a great movie. king's speech beat true grit, crash beat brokeback, million dollar trash beat sideways, chicago beat pianist, titanic beat la confidential, gump beat pulp fiction, ... 2007 was actually one of the better years for recognition of quality.

Ramonza: NCFOM = No Country for Old Men.

And Javier Bardem was superb. He had veins filled with ice water in that one.

    I liked both.

If I had to choose which to watch again it would be "There Will Be Blood".

I'm having a hard time thinking of a more mesmerizing performance then the one Day-Lewis gives in that film.

The rushed ending of NCFOM always turned me off. How you lightly move by the killing of one of the primary characters is beyond me.

Thanks Buddy. Just my take, but I thought NCFOM was terrific at ratcheting up the tension & just miles & miles better than TWBB, which as I say, I didnt appreciate at all.

Yeah, that annoyed me also. I didn't have a problem with the very end, but shitting on the Josh Brolin character like they did...............not cool! :nono:

Brolin was an asshole in the movie. He deserved to die like that. he risked his family for that money. He was a Greedy SOB

But still, you developed a primary interest in what happens to his character. And then his death is fleeting and without any depth.

I still liked the movie overall, but I just thought that could have been handled with a much better scene or two.

I thought it was refreshing. He got what he deserved. And if those mexicans didnt get him, Anton was. Anton always got his man. You might like the book better.

    Right here.

The ninth gate had a shitty ending too and completely ruined the film IMO.

Too be honest TWBB's ending was nothing to write home about either. "I'm finished!" Fade to black.

WTF was that shit all about?

TWBB is easily in my "Top 3" movies of all time. Superb acting by everybody. Easily DDL's best role (His Bill The Butcher roll in GONY was overrated as hell). Paul Dano was fucking great also. This movie gets better and better every time I see it.

I actually feel NOFOM is one of the Cohen's most overrated. In fact I feel the more times I watched it,the less I liked it. I've seen it about 4 times already and have no desire whatsoever to see if again for another 10 or so years.

Hold the fuck up. I know you're not going to sit there and try to tell me, that Sideways was a better movie than Million Dollar Baby. Million Dollar may have been predictable and cliche' as all fuck, but it still shits on that slow ass nothing much happening of a movie, Sideways.

Sideways wasn't bad, but I don't think it even deserved an Oscar nomination. It's the type of movie that people who like to consider themselves intellectuals would talk about. They'd say that Sideways is better because it makes you think and maybe that's true, but it still doesn't change the FACT that MDB was a much better film in every conceivable way.

Really? Could you explain it to me then? Because I didn't understand it.

Going by your last 2 sentences it sounds like you're just tired of seeing the film. Especially since you did sit through it 4 times which isn't something one does for a film they dislike.

I got a problem with people saying NCFOM or TWBB suck or are overrated. If they say that about TWBB, I can kind of understand and chalk that up to them only having watched it once, because it took me the 2nd viewing to appreciate the subtle things that make it a great movie and it only got better and better with each viewing.

However NCFOM isn't a subtle movie. It's got action scenes to go along with great characters, dialogue, pacing, and directing. Plus anyone who says a great movie sucks because the ending was disappointing is being unfair.

So for those who want to claim NCFOM was shit, or overrated please show me where, and/or tell me what movie other than TWBB deserved to beat it out for an Oscar that year, because to be the #1 and/or #2 movie of the year is hardly a recipe for being overrated.

you said it yourself mate: MDB is cliche, and sideways makes you think. so we agree on the main points. for me, one has real characters and real challenges that humans face, and the other doesn't.
