I think that this has to be Crocop.

I was watching "The Best Of Pride" last night on Spike and was reminded what a different fighter Mirko used to be.

He was an absolute no nonsense destroyer. The quickness, agility, defense, and punch/kick combinations were something we haven't seen from him in years.

You would never see him smiling and waving to the crowd during the ring entrances like he does today. It's like he's thinking to himself "lets see if I can do this guys" , rather than " right head hospital, left leg cemetery".

Breaks my heart watching it.

Glad he finally called it quits.

It originally said it WOULD be Chuck, but I think he is officially retired.

Cro Cop is probably the best example. In his prime he was remarkably agile and quick by MMA standards, especially for his size and his fucking chunky legs. Very fun to watch actually, some of the best punching technique in MMA for his time, nice straight left.

Arlovski seems shot, but to be honest I think he's just exceptionally chinny, I don't his fighting prowess is that diminished.

How about Jens Pulver? He's won his last two in local promotions or something but he dropped 7 of his last 8 and 5 in a row in the WEC. And then he also lost a fight on a freaking Powerhouse World Promotions card via submission to a guy with 6 fights.

And this is a former UFC Champ with a win over BJ Penn. Unreal.

 

pulver was pretty much done when he lost to luazon before he coached on TUF. i was surprised that he last the distance vs. faber in the first fight.

His "scrubby" haymakers worked on Overeem, Belfort, Couture, Sobral, Randleman, Horn, Vanderlei, Ortiz, and Guy Mezger, among others. He went on the slide as a result of the Quinton Jackson knockout. After that, he was concussion-prone.

Prior to that, he was as good as just about anyone at lightheavyweight. He was a pro for 9 years when Rampage got him the second time, and after that, he couldn't take a shot and his abilities went downhill quickly. Timing, handspeed, ring generalship.

Hell, he looked bad in the Rampage fight, going to the body and getting stopped by a shot to the head because he didn't bring his hands back up after landing the bodyshot.

 

not sure if overeem's name should be mentioned. a lot of guys knocked him out at light heavy. his win over randleman was more impressive imo.

 

And the thing people tend to forget about a prime Liddell is that he had a freaking cast iron chin. That's why his haymakers worked. He could trade and not get shaken.

 

Actually the Lauzon fight is the first of that 7 of 8 losing streak I mentioned. I said WEC but that fight and the Penn fight were UFC obviously.
