Six years after their first meeting, which Castillo won easily on the scorecards, they meet again on Friday with Castillo coming off a long layoff following his first round knockout loss to Jorge Arce last year while Morel's the guy on a win streak.

    Yeah, he looks finished.

I guess Castillo knows this comeback is a bad idea - he is no longer fighting on Friday. Morel is now facing Luis Maldonando

Good to hear, I wasn't excited to see him in the ring again.

In other Telefutura main event news, Daniel Jimenez dropped out of the Eloy Perez fight.

I have to say, this version of Solo Boxeo has been an epic fail. I have to cover this series for Boxingscene every Friday, and all it's been is lost sleep for me and some very groggy Saturday mornings, with nothing at all to show for it

LOL, I know what you're talking about.

At least being on the West Coast, I can cheat and check Fightnews to see if the fights are even competitive before deciding whether to watch or record.

I'll be disappointed if Peter Quillin-Jesse Brinkley falls through.

afaik, Morel didn't have sex with the girl. I believe there were a bunch of guys and some did have sex with her and others just circle jerked. I believe Morel was in the latter group.

It was an excellent win for Castillo, perhaps his best.

FightNews?! I have a full feature posted sometimes within SECONDS of the conclusion of the main event, but rarely more than a few minutes.

Fcuk FightNews and they're microwaved A.D.D.-inspired reporting!

Ha, I actually thought about going back and changing it to say BoxingScene.

Honestly, I usually scan both sites after fights.

Fightnews is pretty generic, the only thing you can get from their articles is how long the fight lasted and the result, which makes it a slightly more colorful approach than BoxRec.

It's cool. I was just having fun. B-Scene and FightNews are the only two sites I will check (in that order) for any non-US fight results, esp. fights that are Sat. afternoon stateside.

I think people still go to them out of tradition more than anything else - in the same sense that The Ring is still considered THE boxing magazine, even though their quality has tremendously dropped through the years and they have very little credibility left in the sport these days.

Ditto for MaxBoxing, which still skates on its rep as one of the first "major" boxing-only sites.

    Tough to break old habits.

I thought maxboxing had shown some signs of recovery in the months after Fischer left (not everyone enjoyed the team of writers there but I did) but it has noticeably declined in recent months. I do think Kim has improved as a writer over the years though, he's almost the only thing the site has going for it at the moment. I would regularly now read articles at boxingscene and occassionally at ringtv; did everyone ever listen to the mostly wretched ringtv podcast (ring theory) - I can't believe they have started charging for it...

The thing with Kim, though, is that he writes about the same two or three topics over and over again.

The thing with Steve is that he has his favorites and keeps them in rotation - SoCal fighters/fight personalities, Cameron Dunkin-managed fighters and any event involving Kathy Duva.

If there ever comes a time when a Cameron Dunkin fighter from LA signs with Main Events...

And of course there are the HBO rants.

That said, if he were in, say Rafael's position at ESPN, I'm sure he would broaden his horizons. But he only has to write 2-3 times a week on Max, so need to cover as much ground. Plus he has a fan base that seems to prefer his present formula, so why change it?

I get along well with Steve and he's the only guy left on Max whose stuff I continue to read. I don't pretend to understand why other people don't like him - as a writer or a person - but I personally have no qualms with him.
