Personally, I look at this worse than Daley hitting Kos after the bell. If you're going to kick a guy out of the UFC for anything, do it for this type of cheating. And Vera got bounced from the UFC after this loss.
That's good to hear. I'm not a Vera fan, but I hate to see anyone get beatdown by someone that admits cheating. Do you think the UFC should allow someone like Silva to remain in the UFC?
its shitty. but I do give him respect for owning up to it 100%. You don't see that very often in sports. I wouldn't cut him just because of that. Obviously, the microscope should be on him, but I wouldn't cut him
You know, everyone is patting Silva on the back for owning up. But it's not like he came out on his own and quickly admitted it. His test was flagged as being inconsistent with human urine; he was pulled from the Jackson fight; and NOW he owns up. I understand many guys wouldn't even have done that so I do give him a little credit, but not much.
I hear you man. And believe me I recognize the only reason he is admitting it is because he got caught. I guess I just found it refreshing for a change. Probably didn't help I was listening to ESPN radio as I read your post and they were talking about Bonds::
Vera never was cut. Thiago is a guy I like to watch fight, I don't care that much that he cheated, better than him pulling out of the fight I suppose.
Ummm yes. Vera did get cut. Tuesday following his loss. That same day your "budding elite prospect" was cut as well (black dude, name escapes me). This is all well documented and Vera's reinstatement is less than a month old. PS welcome back. Bob , Newbraski and Filthy were lost without ya
Gerald Harris And yes, Vera was cut and has been brought back. I didn't think Vera and Davis were cut the same day however.
I'm glad he didn't go down the road of denial or look exploit the grey areas that exist with regards to supplements or what he may have eaten at a restaurant etc... on some level, I commend him for that because i'm sick to death of athletes protesting their innocence like they are some kind of anomaly. And yes he does need to be cut a little slack as a result otherwise there'll be no reason for anyone to be so honest in the future. That said, he's got to be punished heavily enough so that guys don't start thinking it's ok to cheat as long as you hold your hands up if/when you get caught.
I remember thinking at the time that was actually very unfair, and there must have been more to the story, Dana must not like him for some reason. The guy had won 3 straight in the UFC, and I just read had also won 2 knockout of the night awards. You don't get a 3-0 record in the UFC, all by stoppage, lose 1 fight and get dropped. It makes no sense.
I dont know how to paste links from my droid phone yet. Check out bloodyelbow.com or mmajunkie.com the headlines will read 'Vera reinstated' Furhtermore,a friend of mine named Kenny McCorkell is fighting for the KOTC MW title on 4/21 and just spent 3 weeks at NCFC (north county fight club in san diego) with Vera to specifically work on timing, angles and miay thai. He had a front row seat when B Vera got the call from his manager reinstating him. Sorry. Thats the best source i have
This seems like a good account of the history with Vera. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...aks-on-ufc-return-and-silvas-failed-drug-test
Yeah, it's funny how nothing more has really been made of it. I heard from a buddy that trains at ATT down here that Dana or the UFC didn't like some of the faux tapping out that Harris did in the Falcao bout. I'm not sure. But I guess the UFC knew what they were doing because Harris lost his next fight in a small promotion against a relative unknown.
