This is another step down on the stepping stone ladder for Vivian Harris. http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/161663-vargas-to-fight-harris-on-april-8-telefutura-card
That turned out to be the blatant mismatch it was intended, and expected, to be. Vargas hurt Harris with the second punch he threw in the fight, a left hook to the chin as Harris' right hand strayed from it. Harris backed to the ropes, Vargas went to work on the inside, digging to the body and getting in some uppercuts as Harris pretty much just laid on the inside and held. With about 35 seconds left in the first round, Harris backed up to the ropes again, where he took a big right hand that buckled his legs. Harris was basically done at that point, held on for as long as he could, didn't appear to throw another punch in the round...and with a few seconds remaining in the round, Vargas landed another right, that followed a jab, that wobbled Harris again. Harris went back to his corner, said something like "I'm not feeling it", pushed away attempts to towel off his face or put a Q-tip in his nose, and then repeatedly said to his corner, and then Joe Cortez, "that's it, that's it" as he sat on his stool. Cortez asked him if he wanted him to stop the fight he said "yes", he then asked Harris if he didn't want continue and Harris said "no" Harris threw maybe 20 punches in the fight, and all but a handful of them were basically love-taps. Hopefully he retires, it'd be a shame to see him in with any more prospects that can do some real damage to him.
At least he had the sense to end it when he did. Last night's result doesn't say much for Victor Ortiz fighting him last year...or for the promoters who put him in with Vargas last night.
