I haven´t cared about Roy since the 3rd Tarver fight. I actually wish he would stop, because Lebedev will just be more pain and another bad KO loss. I figured "Holyfield retires" would be too ridiculous for anyone to believe, so I went with Roy. ::

The most annoying thing about Roy on HBO, is not Roy. It's Max and Jim telling him how great he was, reminding us time and time again how Roy got away with stuff that others couldn't etc....yes Roy pats himself on the back plenty too, but the guys next to him hardly help in quenching his ego. On the whole, i like him in that role. Hell of a lot better than Lennox.
If Roy Jones gets hurt then every nickel and dime journalist from Queens to San Quentin is going to climb all over the story and use it to beat the shit out of boxing. This may sound harsh or unfair, but guys like Tyson were pre-destined for the gutter. Guys like Leavander Johnson or Stephan Johnson were always going to get hurt. Guys like Hasim Rahman were always going to fall for a duffel bag with some money in it. Roy Jones is not supposed to be taking fights in places like Australia. He is not supposed to be the butt of jokes on Eurosport, where he is referred to as a guy who will travel anywhere for a pay-cheque. Boxing needs a "Royalty", if for no other reason than to maintain the illusion that it is possible to get in, be untouchable, make money, be a star and retire unscathed.
agREED with that... and to his credit, Roy's general follow up (halfhearted, almost uncomfortable laugh) suggests that even he believes it's too much already. I'm still fairly indifferent to Max as a commentator - some things I like, others I don't. But among those I don't like is that he's still way too much of a fan. There's a balance for it, but he has yet to find it and it's even worse when he's sitting right next to Roy. I like the fact that Roy is back behind the mic. Like others have stated, wish he'd separate church and sport, but is otherwise doing a great job.
