I, the undersigned, politely request that Roy Jones Jr of Pensacola Florida, retire from the sport of Professional Boxing, on the grounds that he has nothing left to prove, and risks tarnishing his legacy, his health, and the sport of boxing, by continuing on as a prize fighter. Yours. Irish 2002/2003
I'd like to see RJJ get the winner of Dawson/Diaconu. I'd also like to see him take on Bute, Pascal, Pavlik, Huck and Andre Ward. I think all of those would be intriguing fights with the outcomes very much in doubt. And I'd pay $49.99 at the drop of a hat to see any of these fights. I'm especially interested to see how Bute woud deal with RJJ's outstandingpunchvolume, his sturdy chin, and his killer instinct, all of which combine to create, even now, in 2011, a fighter who depending who you talk to, is somewhere between 3 and 7 on today's P4P list. Given all of RJJ's ability, I think it'd be a crime, and unfair to fans, for RJJ to retire now, with so much left to accomplish, and so much left to give.
Dude, the people on Eurosport were suggesting that Roy be brought in as an opponent for Firat Arslan, as "Roy will do anything for a cheque"
:bears: Now all Buddy has to do is unban Roy and let him see this thread. :: all laughing aside, I will look a right wally if Roy beats this Russian.
Lebedev probably beat the fat Serb Huck, but if Roy wants to get the same result, he will have to show something special. Ironically, if he beats the Russian, it merely prolongs the fantasy.
thing about Roy is, he's so fundamentally sound, and so clever, with great timing and classic skills, that he can be effective even now, at his advanced age, even with the loss of some of his reflexes and athleticism. He's just such a craftsman in there, he need not be the fastest guy in the ring to come out victorious. And we don't even need to mention his amazing durability, but that certainly helps his cause too. When I think of RJJ at this stage in his career, I think Archie Moore and Mike McCallum.
