Michael Nunn vs. Julian Jackson

I'm not really sure who I'd pick here. I'm inclined to pick Nunn due to his speed and skills. He was extremely fast of foot and hand and would confuse Jackson with his unusual style, angles, footspeed, etc...But then again, Nunn had a bad habit of leaving himself very open, especially with his chin up in the air. Toney got to it, although he was the more skilled (and better-chinned) fighter than Jackson, and also worked his way to the KO by landing good shots for the previous 2-3 rounds.

This is Julian Jackson we're talking about, and it only takes a mistake for the fight to end or change dramatically since his power was freakish. I wouldn't be surprised to see another Graham-type situation.

Nunn all fucking day... Jackson has a 100-1 shot of landing a big bomb to win the fight... other than that, he's getting jabbed silly

    Punchers chance = no chance

    Nunn 12-0, 9 times out of 10.

Typically yeah, but with a guy like Jackson a puncher's chance is more than zero.

I still take Nunn in this one all the way.

I can agree with that. I'd still say a puncher's chance for Toney (a la his fight w/ Nunn) is better than a puncher's chance for Jackson - Toney has a better chance of getting the shot there than Jackson. How devastating the actual KO punch is doesn't matter, knocked out is knocked out and anything beyond that is academic.

Nunn, not on the basis of anything Nunn ever did so much as how Jackson looked against guys like Herol Graham, who was a good fighter, but probably not as good as Nunn. Graham fought stupid, all he had to do was stay away, and Nunn, who had greater physical tools than Graham, would stay away and could possibly stop Jackson on eye injuries late in the fight.

Perhaps, but it also depends on the fight.

For example, it's quite possible that McCallum-Jackson always turns out the way it did. Even if it's more competitive, it's virtually inconceivable to believe that Jackson's power is a factor in that fight, at least in terms of winning.

But I agree, in this fight, a puncher's chance is all that Jackson would have, but still a chance nevertheless (however slim it is).

Yeah i just meant in fights in which you would give somebody a "puncher's chance".

I wouldn't give him one against somebody like Hagler either.

Your agenda is obviously that in a rematch Norris stops Jackson on cuts

Jackson knew that was the only possible outcome so he dodged the rematch.

    Nunn stay away?
he could, but the guy was a dumb shit who turned every fight into an unecessary brawl
Jackson lands plenty of leather on him here

  14. Yup.

It's wrong to pick a fight based on a hail mary punchers' chance alone. Nunn was MUCH bigger than Jackson and 20 times more skillful.

Nunn would score a slap avalanche bemusement stoppage before Jackson can Herol Graham him

I think Nunn follows through on what Herol started. Jackson was never fully the same after his retina surgery (post-Norris) IMO.

Nunn should beat Jackson easy. He could do it many ways; a stiff jab while circling, sharp body punches and uppercuts when he catches Jackson on the turn. Nunn, at his best, stops him in 6-8 rounds.
But if he gets lazy and Jackson catches him standing straight and tall on the ropes like Carl Jones did...

Nunn at his best outclasses Jackson, so long as he doesn't get careless and lazy. But I see Nunn beating Jackson to the punch and outfighting him from any distance, including up close. He'll do to him similar to what Graham was doing except he doesn't get stopped. Nunn by TKO.

I’d favor Nunn as well, but I think Jackson has a pretty solid chance of knocking him out. A lot more so than you guys. He wasn’t Eugene Hart. He knew how to deliver that power. Honestly, though, it’s less to do with Jackson’s ability to land and more to do with how careless Nunn fought more often than not. For such an immense talent he really was a stupid fighter, not just egotistic. He had the talent to rival Jones Jr. and look where he ended up by comparison. I think he’d be just as likely to make the same kind of mistakes Graham made.

Funnily enough, Nunn decisioned MMA legend Pat Miletich in a kickboxing match last summer. He now look like an absolute crackhead, but he still has some moves (tough hes slow as hell)

This is a good post, and yeah, there does exist the possibility of Nunn making a fatal mistake and The Hawk turning his lights out.
