Fedor's inability to cope with today's top HW's isn't about how well rounded they are. It's about their combination of size and strength. Silva didn't destroy Fedor because he is a well-round fighter. He beat Fedor because he was strong enough to take Fedor down and big enough to hold him there. As one-dimensional as Lesnar is, it's a good enough dimension to cause Fedor all sorts of problems. Again, it's always difficult to find fault with heroes or subjects of myths, but Fedor never faced wrestlers as big and strong as Lesnar, Carwin and Cain. He just never did. And personal I think all 3 would be big problems for him after seeing what Silva did. Fedor used his amazing hips and judo to beat smaller wrestlers in his prime. But former D-1 wrestlers weighing in over 240 would be a helluva a different story. And I'm a huge Fedor, but I'm also a realist.
Stuffing take down attempts by Roy Nelson doesn't mean you can stuff Lesnar. I think this fight comes down to whether Junior can land a big shot before Lesnar puts him on his back. I don't think Dos Santos will be able to scramble and get back to his feet like Cain did.
I'm uncertain if you're agreeing with me, or if you're arguing this point, which I didn't make. Nelson's take down attempts were pretty weak and are definitely nothing like what Lesnar will bring.
if overeem wins the tourney, goes to ufc and wins the belt there, would any of you be shocked? i'd say i'd be impressed if he went to ufc and beat velasquez, but not necessarily shocked or surprised. what do you call that? let's face it, overeem's a guy who was knocked out at light heavy. i think he kicks the shit out of fedor now, but again, that's attributed by the fact that fedor is past his prime. didn't lesnar say a few years back that he wasn't ready for fedor? and wasn't that after beating couture for the title? was frank mir better than fedor all along?
He may be shot. But in his prime I don't think anyone from the past or present within his weight range could beat him. I mean maybe some 250+ beasts today could.. but any legit fighter weighing under 240 could not beat him.
Same page brother. JDS hasn't seen any take down attempts in the same universe as what Brock will bring.
Agree with this. Then again, I can't think of a top HW today that isn't over 240. Big Nog is probably the only one, although he doesn't deserve to be there.
The HW division has basically transformed in front of us. You are right too, No real contender is under 240. Hell, if you are under 230 you are most likely going to cut the weight to 205, that just wasn't the case 10 years ago, shit it wasn't the case 5 years ago.
