I agraah, junior welterweight isn't particularly brilliant at all,.. It was worth asking wether you've formed the same relationship with Maidana as you had with Arthur Arabham though,.. Everyone needs to pop the lid of the compass to sort the terrain out a bit.

Light-Welter is competitive but thats not the same as quality.

And to think a highly ranked guy at 147 just got RAN OUT of 140 by the same guy who went 12 with Morales.

I can see the PR boys working overtime for the next 6 weeks to put this right.

    This is just it.

You have to hand it to HBO though.

Their ability to ring-fence, to sequester and quarantine these things,....I tell you.....Freuds nephew would be proud.

Bernays. Wow...he had nothing on these guys.

Of course, when the mob wants to be fooled, its all that easier.

At 140? So would I. They would wheel Chambers anorexic-self out of his hospital room and up into the ring.

Erik would sprint across the ring, Chambers would punch him in the balls, from his seated position, you see.

Eriks eye would then swell shut and the crowd would riot.

And HBO could make the "Tale of Erik and Eddie" and it would be a classic.

Fuck me Steve_Dave you are a genius. Another Bernays. :bears: :bears:

Wow. Whats that? Another "Fun" thing? A Derivative of "Catch-Weight"? :dunno:

Open-Weight? Is that like an Open Verdict? :dunno:

    Hey, technicalities, weasel-words....who cares.

As long as it is FUN, I am in.

    FUN. Its the new GOOD.

Wait? Is Chambers from the Inner City? I think I just found a way for Erik to get into Canastota ahead of Manny Pac, despite losing 2 out of 3 to him.

Can we get this fight made? Chambers has that slick thing going on, he's black....find out where he lives, get it re-zoned inside City Limits.....

    .....Steve_Dave, you are a PR fucking GENIUS:rock1:

Hopkins would have to suck on it then.:stir::stir::stir::stir:

There's absolutely no doubt that Erik Morales would go the distance with both Klitschko's.

Yes- especially if they both caught the same flight.

Now, its unlikely they would share the same seat, on account of old Erik being a truculent SOB, and not liking them "Pinchie Russkies".

I heard he had been put to sleep well before the 5th. I'm not even sure he stayed awake long enough to see Eriks eye swell shut, and that was the first round.

All the bitterness aside, I think it has to be said that the former Super-Bantamweight champ, and #18 ranked Light-Welter, Erik Morales, gave a great account of himself last night verus the #4 ranked Light-Welter, Marcos Maidana.

You see, I can see it when people say it was a "fun" fight...Sincerely, I thought it was very entertaining.

It was a classic instance of a young, technically deficient, under-trained but brutally physical fighter, clashing with a physically declining but very astute, determined old pro.

There is a wrinkle there. There is a lot to be said about Morales sticking to old-school craft and guile and making a competitive fight of it.

What I don't like is this fucking persistent, whining, in-my-ear-all-fucking-night, pre-and-post-fight BULLSHIT that is dripping from the corporate offices down onto the ring apron via the orifices of Kellerman and Lampley.

Sorry, but comparing Schmeling to Morales was fucking STUPID. Comparing Maidana to Joe Louis was EVEN STUPIDER. And comparing Schmeling vs Louis I to Morales vs Maidana was just....Canastotal Stupidity. I mean, Hall of Fame Fuckery.

The entire event reeked of an attempt to justify the card, justify the event, justify the price. Thats a corporate and ethical concern. Allowing that to seep into the round-by-round calls is not appropriate. It is unwarranted. "Oh look at that right hand from Morales, its obviously apt that we charged you $59.99 for this".

That was the pitch, all fucking night. Which itself points to an underlying knowledge, constructive or otherwise, on the behalf of HBO that they suspected that this fight was garbage when they made it and when they charged us for it.

They were proved wrong, as much through the gargantuan ineptitude of Maidana- but that is besides the point. They felt, ab initio, that this was not a good fight. All is well that ends-well {or Enswell, in Morales case} but the principle remains.

Did Morales performance save the "event". Yes. It did. But Leave that up to Morales :nono: The fans are not stupid. We will make our own judgment calls. And don't try to tell the fans that Maidana "punches like a Middleweight." He doesn't. The attempt to paint a picture of the indomitable legend of Morales absorbing Middlweight bombs and schooling his opponent was as awkward as it was cheap.

Yet, there were major reservations about it all. There must have been, because Kellerman and Lampley started to justify the wisdom of letting a man fight with 1 eye not for one more round but for 11 more rounds. They knew what the fans were thinking-...-"we've been here before with one-eyed fighters....why is this one going on as long as it is..." and again that points to the underlying mentality of these people. They spend more time justifying their own decisions than they do calling the fight. Every punch by Morales was accentuated and eulogized, not because they were massive shots, but to re-emphasize the point..."this is a good fight......this is a good...event"

Morales didn't "see something" in Maidana, in face he barely saw anything all night. He fought well, with precision, with brains and with craft and with determination, but he definitely incurred most of the damage that was dished out. Prime Morales makes shit of Maidana inside the distance, probably later than sooner. All Morales did was show up the weaknesses in the 140 and 147lb ranks, not that this was mentioned at all.

In fact Kellerman finished the evening still babbling on, trying to explain why the fight was better than we thought it might be etc. :shit:

This was one of the most entertaining cards Ive seen in a long time. Morales was robbed, the best Maidana could hope for was a draw. Kirkland wiped in one and Katsidas entertained as always. That Guerrero dude was impressive..

I thought the scores were generous to Erik if anything. I had it 8-3-1. Morales put up a great fight, through the middle rounds especially, but the only rounds he really consistently got the better of Maidana in were the 5th, 8th & 10th. Other than that it was willed rallies against a relentless tide. Quite a few rounds were close but I think you'd be scoring through a romantic tinge to give more than 4 of them to Morales.

Erik looked like a guy trying to empty a flooding boat with a too small bucket. Maidana looked like the sea, somewhat flustered at the refusal of this boat to sink without a fight.

Erik really wasn't bossing it except for those brief moments you referred to.

It was entertaining fare, but one man was being bashed to the body and was half blind, the other just looked like an amateur who was making mistakes and was half fit.

Agreed, i had it the same as the two judges who scored 116-112.

Morales looked better than expected but he still lost the fight. For the most part he just got outworked.

Considering it was a PRO Morales crowd and Morales did better than expected the crowd was quiet...

For me to score the fight 7-5 or 8-4 for Maidana tells you that Maidana really won.

Yeah I'm really surprised at how many people (not here, just in general) are trying to plead that case for Morales. He was balls to the wall for sure, but I was honestly surprised that it went to a majority decision. I had it 7-5 or so, but also remember having Morales way down after four, to where he almost needed a clean sweep in order to pull it out.

He had a hell of a second half of a fight, but not enough to mathematically win the fight.

Its one of those rare cases were hearts really do rule heads. People wanted him to do it, and then believed they saw him do it. As I saw the fight, it was like an old fish making life hard for an inexperienced angler. Morales got reeled in eventually, and netted, but not before he had dragged Maidana half way into the stream with him.
