Pac/Marquez/Morales/Barrera will all be ranked higher historically than the other 4. Well, maybe not Marquez.

    Featherweight 4 no doubt.

Throwing Pea in with that group of welters demonstrates a general lack of boxing knowledge.

If I throw Vargas, Winky, Quartey or Forrest in there instead of Pea it´s not a question. :NotThink:

Pea doesn't fit. About a decade before the others.

Well put in there whoever you want as the 4th guy and answer the damn question.

put vargas in that mix since they've all fought each other. still, i'll take morales/barrera/pac/marquez in terms of excitement.

the first 4, no contest, and i agree that pea doesn't belong with the latter group

Thats what did it for me. Once Pea went in there an otherwise lock in favour of the 4 Featherweights was put on ice. Take Pea out and it gets a lot easier to disregard the 2nd group, unless he is replaced with Ray Robinson or something

Pacquiao, Morales and Marquez by a mile.

Pea is greater historically than anyone named other than Pacquiao.

  15. Joe King

Joe King WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

No. That's not to say he wouldn't have beaten any of them though.

You think Marco Antonio Barrera is a greater fighter than Pernell Whitaker?

Come on man, Whitaker was greatly skilled but his resume is lacking.

This, it appears, is steve_daves standard-issue response to any form of contrary opinion or disagreement. :pathetic:

While Whittaker was indeed a great fighter, and is probaly the "greatest" fighter of all those mentioned in the two brackets, the man remains best known, it seems, for two decisions he didn't get as opposed to the decisions he did get.

I think Pac vs Whittaker has the potential to be a classic and to a very very close fight.

Its not like Pac is one of these slower, more mechanical fighters, a la Oscar or Chavez.

    It's not close my man.

Well, yeah, I'm not going to sit here and seriously argue why Pea was a greater fighter than MAB.

  25. Irish

    Thats fine.

    But Whittaker vs Pacman?

Pac could drop a decision or a draw to Floyd and it wouldn't leave him any worse off than Whittaker.

I already rate Pacquiao above Pea, all-time.

I'll go with the first 4 but not "by a mile".

Who did Whitaker beat? His best win was over a blown-up Azumah Nelson.

The dude beat something like 16 or 17 future or former legitimate world champions over his career. And in my mind, he was undefeated until 35 years old and fighting a much bigger, younger Felix Trinidad.

All that said, sometimes a fighter's talent goes beyond his resume and really lies more deeply in how he fought. If you watched Whitakers whitewash of McGirt or him barely getting touched over 12 round against Ramirez, you would know he was far greater than the sum of those champions on his resume.

Whitaker was simply one of the Top 5 guys to ever fight between 135-140 pounds in my opinion.
