To me it more underscores the need for more liberal use of 10-8 rounds or 10-10 rounds.

The way MMA is scored today, that bout was clearly going to be a draw. Judges rarely call rounds even. And they are very reluctant to score a round 10-8.

My problem is that I don't think Jardine should get the same points for winning Round 1 as Mousasi deserved for Round 3. Mousasi clearly won "bigger" in round 3.

Personally I think the first round should have been scored 10-10 and adjusted to 10-9 for Jardine after the point deduction. And then Round 3 should have been scored 10-8 for Mousasi.

 

That's more like it.

 

Hey jar, funny thing is, I was going to say before this fight even happened, yeah I have seen Mousasi and don't like him. I've seen his K1 and MMA fights.

He is a technically adept striker, but there is something not right about him.

He fights without urgency and passion, he is robotic too.

Standup like Diaz's actually impresses me far more. Sure it LOOKS sloppy, but it's more skilled and aggressive, and surprisingly accurate.

The Jardine fight is a perfect example of why I don't like Mousasi.

 

If you do nothing with the td and the other guy works well from the bottom, how does it scores points ??? It just shows how american mma is biased for wrestlers

 

Well, I agree with you for the most part. But there was little else in that first round to swing it either way. For me, the 4 takedowns were the most dominant thing that happened.

I blame it on Mousasi for not starting faster. He was tentative and allowed Jardine to steal that round with the takedowns. And let's not minimize takedowns alone. Jardine had a pretty good slam in there.

Like I said, I think the scoring system sucks but it is what it is. Mousasi has no one to blame but himself.

 

At about 1,35 ( left ), Moussassi seems to rock Jardine, to me, this was far more valuable than the td. In fact, even when taken down, Moussassi inflicted more dammage than Jardine dished.

BTW, I felt the point taken was an harsh call.

 

Well, that is the kind of foul that can end a fight and Mousasi did knock out Souza with an up kick.

Personally I was kind of shocked that the ref took a point away but I don't really have an issue with it.

 

By the way, is there a worse MMA commentator than Gus Johnson? Please ditch him Showtime. It's bad enough I had to listen to him do play-by-play on Madden 11, but now he's Showtime's voice of MMA.

After the fights last night they were discussing potential UFC-Strikeforce matchups. Mauro went with the winner of Edgar-Maynard versus Melendez. Frank Shamrock went with Overeem-Velasquez.

And then the dumbass Gus Johnson says "I tell ya the fight I'd like to see.....Cung Le.....Anderson Silva?

Seriously? Le split fights with freaking Scott Smith and the best Strikeforce-UFC match you can come up with is Le versus Silva???? Please shoot yourself in that oversized, nonsense-spewing mouth of yours.
