Leave ASIDE personality here (just pretend it isn't an issue) - which boxer or former boxer would you have teach you or your kid to box? One who you think has the most pure, impartible technique to relay, which is transferable to another person of average talent & athletic ability. Hopkins comes to mind, but I'd have to think it through a bit better.
Duran or Floyd I would say. Obviously I wouldn't really choose Floyd, because he is one of the biggest twats in boxing history, but if he had an awesome personality, he'd be in the running. Floyd might actually be better than Duran as a coach in theory, because Duran was in large part a natural fighting machine. Floyd is more schooled.
Agreed, for pure technique it's Floyd, no question. I'd rather be trained by a guy who relies more on technique than unteachable fighting instincts or athleticism
Off the top of my head, Juan Manuel Marquez comes to mind. Not the most physically gifted guy out there.
Considering my own (lack of) physical abilities, it would have to be a simple technique that is not based on slick movement nor handspeed. Thus, I think the way I could be most successful would be Sven Ottke's or Wlad's style
Yep, that's the gist of it, which is why Manny wouldn't exactly be a great choice. Marquez would also be good as Steve said.
I was thinking along these lines, but I think it takes a high level of talent to do Wlad's style and I suppose Ottke's style, too. (thinking gold medal) If I had reflexes, I'd go with Montell Griffin, but I don't. If I had stamina, I'd go with Vinny Pazienza, but I don't. If I had power in my hook, I'd go with Micky Ward, but I don't (have enough). All I have is a good chin (I think) which would just prolong a beating. I guess I'll go with Marion Wilson and see how that works out. Arthur Abraham is a possibility, too.
I'd love to know how much of what Nicollino Locche did he could teach or explain. I mean he doesn't seem to be particularly athletic in any sense but what he did defensively seemed almost preternatural.
seems it would be best to pick a well schooled guy who hasnt had too many tough fights. less brain damage and word slurring to communicate better would be ideal. kirkland perhaps
true, if he didnt have such a bright future in the boxing game Id suggest he become a full time life coach
And part time mathematician. Why waste an obviously exceptional brain on one or two disciplines? I could do with someone like Kirkland to help out with my new 3D physics engine.
Roy Jones Jr... In Terms of "Oooooh's & Aaaaaah's", There's NEVER Been a BETTER Fighter...Roy Jones had an Almost IMPROBABLE Style that Actually WORKED for the Better Part of 2 DECADES...Even Roy's STAUNCHEST Critic's CAN'T Take this Away from him... Just as a PRIME Mike Tyson AWED Audiences Thru Sheer BRUTALITY, Prime Roy Jones AWED Audiences Thru Sheer ATHLETIC INGENUITY... REED's Probably Going AGAINST the Spirit of the Thread, Because Roy's Style is Probably the LEAST "Coachable" in Boxing History...But as Faaaaaaaaar as Whose Style REED would Most like to MIMIC, it's Roy Jones, Jr.... EASILY... REED:kidcool:
