i think diaz is a very good fighter, but i guess we won't truly know until he moves over to ufc. every fighter he's beaten would get beaten by not only gsp, but also by guys like fitch, koschek, and few others.
I don't think Daley is a real good MMA fighter. But his power is exceptional for MMA. The fact that Diaz traded with him and won is what makes this a good win for Diaz.
I understand the sentiment. I wanted WWE to keep the WCW name. It works better if there is ever cross promotion. AT LEAST, get one major event out of it before dropping a brand name. A WWE vs WCW or Pride vs UFC PPV would have been great.
Stand up in MMA is never going to look like the "Sweet Science" NEVER EVER!!! It's far more brawling than boxing.
Eh. If he cant excute his great stand up againt top guys, i question how good he really is. He has power, sure. but he isnt smart with his punches. I wouldnt call him one of the best stand up guys in MMA. Not until he wins a big fight.
I can look sweeter than the sweet science. Anderson's display of head movement and sticking and moving, was a thing of beauty against Forrest. It was some of the sweetest disply of MMA i have seen.
Well, in fairness, Hughes has had his chin cracked a few times. But Serra has two KO wins in his entire career. The one against GSP and the other was against Frank Freaking Trigg. Serra is not a big puncher.
The dude is a destructive puncher. Anyone that questions his power probably hasn't watch many of his fights. He is far from the best stand up fighter in MMA, but he is certainly among the hardest punchers.
Diaz is the first guy to beat him standing. His other loses all involved being taken down and either LNP'd or submitted. He can stand with the best guys in MMA. Only Diaz is dumb enough to fight him at his own game. I'll say this, his left hook is the absolute best in MMA without exception.
Yep. He is not the most intelligent, or skilled striker, but his power is fucking legit by MMA standards. The guy is a little tank, he has explosive punching power, and half decent knees/leg kicks. And Joe, don't be stupid. Like Trpl said, the guy's striking credentials are legit, and he IS a MT fighter. That's evident in pretty much every one of his fights. His best weapon happens to be his left hook, so obviously he looks to land it often. His striking is still good. Good accuracy and timing on his punches for MMA, but as far as pure punching power is concerned he is arguably the best puncher in MMA P4P. That's what made it impressive, Diaz just wading through him. A little stupid too, but impressive, and very entertaining.
All of what you wrote doesn't make Daley an elite fighter. He lost very easily to Koschek who is a top 10 fight at best, making Daley average.
Yeah the man's power is great. No doubt. But as far as being the best stand up puncher in MMA, i question. He hasnt KOed elite fighters. And he is too stupid to do it IMO. If Diaz fought smart, i dont see Daley even touching him. Diaz did Daley a favor by trading and even then he couldnt KO him.
1000x is a stretch. BUt lets say it was better. How many years ago was that? Have you seen it since? If Kicks were incorporated it would be much better. Which makes my point that it can be sweeter than the sweet.
Pernell was pretty slick at doing stuff like that. The Anderson thing was great too but against a crude brawler, so that diminishes it.
He has done it against other people too. You should go on youtube and find an anderson silva highlight clip. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/XWC23XaW4vs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I wouldn't QUITE classify Kampmann as elite but he's a damn good fighter and has very good stand up. Daley crunched him And Daley hit Diaz with a left hook that would have finished alot of very good fighters. I think that punch would have ended the night for GSP and Koscheck. Of course those guys wouldn't trade with Daley. But you know, you could point to many great MMA stand up fighters that haven't knocked out ELITE fighters.
It's pretty simple with Daley. Regardless of whether or not you think he is an elite fighter, he IS an elite striker, that's not even arguable. The Kampmann, Hazelett and Smith fights are evidence enough of that, and it's not like he's so slow and scrubby that he can hardly ever land punches. His technique is pretty decent for MMA.
I wouldnt call him an elite striker. Im sorry, i just wouldnt. He has power. But thats about it fr me. sorry guys. Not claiming to be right and that you are wrong. Im just stating my opinion.
Name 10 strikers in MMA more effective than Daley, in fact let's say 10 guys who could BEAT Daley striking, just like Diaz did.
There are none at 170 pounds that I would pick to beat Daley in the stand up game. My top choice would have been Martin Kampmann because I love his size and Muay Thai, but Daley knocked him out already. There are a ton of wrestlers at 170 and few good strikers. Of those that somewhat excel in boxing or kickboxing, Condit and Hardy would be the biggest threats. And I don't think Condit or Hardy could handle Daley's stand up any better than Kampmann did.
