Daley can be easily Neutralized with a Jab. Easily. He doesnt need to stand with him the whole fight, but i see him busting his face up. I have to say, Daley is very overrated on this board.
Daley can be outboxed, no doubt. The jab is a huge tool in doing that. The jab GSP put in Kos's face all night would be effective on Daley. With all that said. GSP would never stand and box with Daley. Sorry, man, it would never happen. GSP would take him down and beat him up severely. The takedown would probably happen in less than 20 seconds into the fight. Which would be extremely smart and what GSP should do. But make no bones about this, GSP still does not have a ton of confidence in his chin and he will always play it safe with a guy with good stand up. A perfect example is Hardy. He sure as heck didn't even try to stand with Dan.
:: Improved over what? Nothing? Koscheck is a wrestler. His weakest area is standup, that's why GSP fought him standing.
It has improved ten folds since TUF. That really isn't saying much though. Mex is 100% correct, its still by far the weakest part of his game. I am sure GSP will look to keep it standing with Shields just as he did with Kos. However, he isn't going to stand with daley, just as he didn't with hardy, nor alves
Kos didn't want anything to do with Daley standing, and GSP wouldn't stand with Dan Hardy, a less skilled Daley.
You cant say Mex is right and say that his striking has improved ten fold. I think Kos' defense is the weekest part of his game.
GSP not standing with Hardy has nothing to do with Fear. GSP's game is wrestling. If GSP had to stand, he would. His karte background is no joke.
Neither do I, we all have unpopular opinions at some point. It's all good my brotha, it's what makes debates fun.
Is this line a pisstake? Every Karate background is a joke. Karate isn't a combat sport, they don't have full contact sparring, just like Kung Fu. Karate was the first MA I did, at about 7 years old, then TKD. Neither of them taught me to fight in any way, shape or form. It wasn't till I started doing some MT in my mid teens and eventually boxing that I really learned to fight. A Karate background means nothing at all.
There many different types of Karate. You cant say Karate doesnt do full contact sparring, because as a practice, i go around to gyms all over Los Angeles sparring. Some of the best places to spar are karate gyms because of how hard they go. Not only that, but a few places i have gone to, dont even use gloves or feet pads. You need to step back on that one. Your karate is different that other Karate out there. And as for Karate meaning nothing in MMA, tell that to Machida.
There is a big difference between full contact Karate, which GSP knows and Semi contact Karate. Which is probably what you know. GSP style is all about Full Contact Karate. Karate where you can win a tournament by knocking someone the fuck out. While i am not a fan of Karate, these motherfuckers are hard. And sparing with them has always been the most fun.
I went to a Kung Fu tournament before and it was full contact, I saw a dude get KTFO. My buddy who looks like a big bad ass, got beat up like a little girl too.
I like MWS, but i have no clue what he is talking about. Especially GSP Karate Style, which specifically specializes in full contact sparring/fighting
I've never seen or heard of full contact Karate or Kung Fu. Maybe it's just in England, but basically ALL martial arts apart from Muay Thai (which is more of a combat sport really, not strictly a MA) are not full contact. I did Karate for a while, then TKD for a few years (almost getting to black belt) and neither one of them had anything approaching full contact sparring or competitions. About a year ago I joined a Wing Tsun gym. The first thing I asked was "Is there full contact sparring?". The girl told me yes, there is. I went there, and once again there was nothing resembling full contact sparring. In fact, because he heard I used to box amateur, the intructor would not spar with me, even though I asked him to. Also, I used to be friends with a national level Kung Fu guy that competed in tournaments etc, the tournaments he went to were NOT full contact, no head shots allowed, in fact I think you could get DQ'd for it. BTW Godfather, IMO Machida is not exactly a great example. If Karate was worth a shit, we'd see more Karate standup fighters rather than basically EVERYONE training in boxing/muay thai. Clearly Machida just has some natural aptitude for fighting, and happens to come from a Karate background.
GSP's jab in Kos's face has nothing to do with his "karate". Its boxing. And yes, I can agree with Mex and still say that Kos's stand up has improved ten folds. Not sure if you remember that TUF season, but Kos wouldn't stand with anyone, his stand up was zero. ten folds from zero is still shit.
While you are correct the jab is boxing, they do teach jab like techniques in Karate and other martial arts. So he does have roots in striking.
MMA is a new sport. 15 years ago, not everyone was using the boxing/muay thai clinch. Machida has shown that Karate can be effective in MMA. BTW, impressive list of Credentials in the MA department. I wish you were here, we would spar. I would kick your ass, but it would be fun::
mexican wedding shirt, check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyokushin_kaikan See the famous practitioners? Is anyone familiar?
"Competitions include kicks to the head, but not hand strikes to the head". Not entirely full contact then.
Unless you're a pretty good amateur boxer or good wrestler, you'd get fucking thumped, num sen? :kidcool: I'm not the most clever or skilled fighter, but I am fast, powerful, and violent.
isn't machida a karate guy? i thought Kyokushin Karate is all full contact. not sure though since the karate classes (in U.S) i took back in the day were pretty soft and involved very little sparring.
