The tough LaPorte takes on the quick Gamboa.

Gamboa UD is the SAFE Pick, but if he DARED to Play that Hands by the Side Shit, LaPorte Could Very Well Knock Gamboa Into the Middle of Next Week...w/Out Question, LaPorte would B the HARDEST Puncher Gamboa's Ever Faced...

LaPorte could punch, but did not let his hands go nearly enough.

He did too much posing, probably was afraid of getting tired.

I was very disappointed when I finally got a chance to see him in person on the Czyz-Lalonde card and he blew it vs. a skinny little thug type, looked just awful.

Gamboa still an unproven kid compared to the LaPorte that pushed a prime Sanchez and Pedroza to the limit.

    LaPorte KO 7.

When LaPorte let his hands go he was a tremendous fighter... anyone who wants to see what LaPorte SHOULD HAVE BEEN in his career should watch his fight with Chavez... he lost the fight, but he lost it close and worked all night, absorbing the hardest, most accurate shots JCC could dish out (at 130 where that REALLY meant something) without so much as a blink and giving plenty good in return

You never know with LaPorte... I disagree with Hegman's characterization of a fear of lost stamina on LaPorte's part... that never appeared to be the issue... the issue with LaPorte was that if he got a little behind his opponent, he would start trying to land PERFECT shots instead of just going to work... you can see this in spades in his fights with McGuigan, Sanchez and especially Wilfredo Gomez (whom he should have knocked dead)

My guess is that Gamboa's speed could frustrate him and cause him to revert to that "Let me just place this one perfect haymaker right on the chin" gameplan and cause him to waste time while precious rounds slip away... It's certainly possible LaPorte could land a bomb and turn it in his favor, but it's hard to have faith in that given LaPorte's tendencies

Still, he's one of my all time faves... best chin ever, in my opinion

furthermore, LaPorte won 4 rounds at best versus Sanchez... he was comprehensively outworked

Pedroza, Hegman is right about that one
