I wonder what Brandon Rios has to say about this?

Rios would get KO'd by Ortiz at 147. And at 140, Ortiz would probably get stopped due to being drained.

Its up to Rios if he'd be willing to move to 147 to get this fight.

Man, Ortiz looked fucking good last night. Do you think it's purely a weight thing? Or a change in mentality?

Oh, I see, win a decision in an entertaining fight and all past sins are forgotten? I didn't know it worked that way.

Not forgotten. But if he keeps fighting like that, no one will care about what happened in the past.

I thought Rios was down tight with the Oxnard crew and Ortiz was his "friend"???

I'm sincerely saying that Ortiz was trying to fight every single time he got inside, and Berto wasn't much interested in that.

Wow. I never knew it worked that way. I certainly never got that impression. Its odd.....a guy quits and can erase the stench of the quit job faster than a guy who doesn't quit? Viva Boxing!!! Viva HBO!!!

Nah, from what I've read, they hate eachother. Or at least Rios hates Ortiz.

Alright. I'll have to get a hold of the fight,.. I couldn't be blamed for thinking Ortiz is pretty shit, given his recent performances leading up to this one.

When it comes down to it, people watch boxing to be entertained.

Thats true. Ortiz had a better inside game, thanks to his being far stronger {we'll come back to that later, no doubt} but please, his use of the head was flagrant. It happened in every round.

He would move in, throwing punches, then use the head.

Are you saying he did not use his head persistently in that fight? How many times did Michael "Son of A Mexican Legend" Ortega warn him about the head?

And there is Larry Merchant...."Ortega is imposing himself in this fight too much...we are not here to see him"...fuck that. The rules are the rules. Ortega did a shitty job of enforcing them but they are there nonetheless.

Ortiz was flagrant and persistent with the butting.

You will have to forgive my cynicism, but the Khan fight, another De La Hoya production....set the tone for the evening.

Wasn't something I was paying much attention to, honestly. Was busy enjoying the fight. My quota of frustration was directed towards the guy that stopped fighting in the second half.

    Ahhhhhh.

But how far does the fight have to veer from the true pugilistic path before the entertainment value fades??

Quite far, it seems, especially if Housey is Winning.

I would agree- it was cracking stuff, especially early rather than later, but it just wanes for me when it becomes obvious what is happening. I get jaded when I see awkward stories about being "drained at 140" raising their ugly head when we all know that the Bay Area was hard at work last night.

The "fight" was comparatively tepid stuff after the 6th. Berto did not "stop fighting" after that, he won at least 2 of the remaining 6 rounds.

The fact is, Ortiz took more chances in 12 rounds last night than Wlad has since Brewster.

Sometimes I like to forget about the bullshit, and just enjoy a good fight while it's happening.

What are you bringing that Klitschko up for. He's a quit job....he isn't fit for a 12 rounder in Mashentucket :nono:

    "Forget the Bullshit".....yeah, OK.

I would like to forget it too.....but.....from Oakland to Sacktown, the Bay Area and back down, I think it gets pretty hard to ignore after a while.

    agREED.

And it's easy to second guess and nitpick immediately after the fight...with both guys going down twice in the first six rounds it made the last six worth watching.

Plus, if you're like me watching Berto bitch up and fall apart was enjoyable.

Probably a combination of both. But he seems alot more suited for 147.

But even being drained, theres NO excuse for him not destroying Peterson.

But obviously, fighting like he did last night, he woulda had Peterson gone very quickly.

    You brought Wlad up. :nono:

Excellent fight that was last night. It's a shame you couldn't allow yourself to really enjoy it.

Bullshit. Its a testament to common sense that people see the flaws in the product they are offered.

"Bitch up" isnt the right word. I'm not a Berto fan, and he's a very flawed fighter with a shitty chin, but theres no "bitch" in him.

All I know... I'm really looking forward to the next Ortiz fight. And I'd be pissed if they showed a Klitschko fight on TV instead.

Ortiz vs Mike Jones makes sense. But given Jones is with TR, it likely wont happen.

    Who else can Ortiz fight?

I came to be more of a Berto fan last night than an Ortiz fan.....he never quit and made a fatal mistake in the 6th when he should have taken his 10-8 instead of trying to finish Ortiz. No biggie.

I think he showed plenty of fight and got a raw deal from the commentary team who were clearly rooting for Ortiz.

The attempt, by the very people who hyped Berto up in the first place, to make Berto look like he was seeking a way out of the fight, that he was eliciting fouls from his opponent, and playing to the referee, was as cheap as it was obvious.

And this from a Network who have aired fight after fight of a guy who feigns he has been hit low, feigns that he has been hit to the back of the head, goes down, tries to get opponents disqualified.

Mayweather was there, and apparently he's looking for a dance partner this summer. Wouldn't be much of a fight though.

    Amir Khan.

Amir, after all, does not have to fight Tim Bradley, as he is going onto to bigger and better things at 147, where he will not fight Manny Pac, who is his friend, you see.

That leaves Ortiz, whom as you have all already alluded to, is afraid of Khan.

I love it when one fighters BS meshes perfectly with another fighters BS to leave them both standing there with their pricks in the breeze.:bears:
