And dominate. And make Duran quit in the very next round.

I got 80 seconds in before I turned it off in disgust. Im not sure either man landed a punch. Just Leonard clowning and running. Not even winning, just clowning and running. Honestly a farcical display, Duran was right to throw his hands up rather than be part of it.

Watch the entire clip. Every time Duran gets close Leonard gets the better of it.

Round 7 was his best round. Duran was already losing the will to live with frustration and was starting to dive in near the end to try and get within 3 feet of the runner.

Honestly, in a boxing ring, Duran wins.

Nah, Leonard was simply a much, much better boxer. It's cool though, you can't win them all.

He won every round. No argument there. The overall performance and the size of the ring (along wiith SRL's unwavering demands for it) show that he had to go to extremes to attain that victory.

See, this is what Im talking about? How distorted has this history become?

Leonard won 4 of 7 rounds on one card and only 3 of 7 on the other. And they were all NOTHING rounds. It was literally one or two landed punches deciding most of them, since there were about as many exchanges as there are atom collisions in the 17 mile hadron collider.

interesting - as you can understand i don't care to re-watch the match.... but i definitely remember scoring all the rounds for leonard, not that it was majorly impressive but 10-9 Leonard nonetheless

I had it 3-2-2 Leonard, like one of the judges. I wouldn't rewatch it either, it's truly awful. It's basically like if 12 rounds of DLH-Tito were like the last 3 except the ring was big enough that Oscar could run comfortably enough to wiggle his hips and stick his tongue out. Oscar was 'De la chicken', put him in a 24 foot ring and it's a masterful schooling.

That and the fact that Cossell desperately wanted to bear Leonards unborn children. Fuck Cossell.

I understand the Leonard hate. He did, afterall, beat everyone's favorite fighter.

Unless, of course, winning the rematch propells you into one of the biggest fights in boxing history.

For the Hearns fight alone, I love Leonard. I also think he legitimately beat Hagler and stayed on the right side of running throughout. But New Orleon's was purest rotten egg.

Right, because that was the fight where he beat your fave. Hagler fans hate him for the Hagler fight, Duran fans for the rematch etc... :kidcool:

Forget the 2nd Leonard-Duran fight, the 3rd fight is the biggest joke in all of the Fab 4 saga

Duran > Leonard when they were both at their best, simple as that.

If Leonard was better in the rematch, how could he have been at his best in the first fight?

    I don't believe it's that simple.

Leonard basically fought Duran's fight the first time. (yes Duran made him at times)

Leonard knew Duran was out of shape and wanted the rematch ASAP. Duran looked lethargic at times but Duran played into his hands also.

If you're so inclined you can put asterisks next to both fights.

Because he wasn't better in the rematch, he just had a big Doctor Who tardis of a ring and made war peace.

That probably didn't help Duran much but unless he got a ring ridiculously undersized the other way around he still would have lost.

44% more surface area in Ray's custom clown Ring. Vast. If you threw the towel in it'd drift like a stray pigeon feather through an aircraft hangar.
