Fight Night Champion is the best overall at this point. I have owned almost all the titles mentioned above.

I destroyed my fight night champion game... but a friend of mine has it, and he popped it in while I was over a couple of weeks ago. There's actually an update that makes it impossible to land single punches.

    I haven't noticed.

In my opinion it's as close to boxing as I've seen in a game to date. Very very good game, IMO.

Certain guys like Tyson, Ali and Pacquio have been rendered PERFECTLY in terms of their styles and abilities. And the game is fun fun fun!:hammert:

KO Kings 1999 had the best playability of any of them.

Much like the "Driver" series, the original was not bettered in terms of game-play until many many titles later, pardon the pun.

The KO KINGS of 2000 and 2001 were terrible. Fighters coming into the ring to the same music, looking like they had been carved out of wood, all this emphasis on the training nonsense, throwing these stiff punches at a million miles an hour...garbage.

Just compare them.....Look at the first vid...Joe and Ali coming into the ring to the same bad soul vibe, and Ali with ZERO punch power shoe-shining Joe to a KO in a few rounds, too much Jimmy Lennon Jr, too much "graphics", too much commentary....just awful.

    Now compare....

    In for a quick nibble.
I used Fight Night Round 4 like a thin discus actually,.. aimed for the dog, and it was spot on, he charged me like a little blue bull and I have the pictures to prove it, an awesome dog, most photogenic specimen I've ever owned.

Fight Night round 2 and 3 are the best for me. Round 2 was good for a slug up,.. quick hayemakers,.. I learned to thrash them out but kept having to blow the plastic powder around the rim off the control stick fight by fight,.. inevitably it snapped like a twig. Round 4 pissed me off, so that'll do, no more sequels :eek:hno:.

    Definitely the worst "Fight Night".

You had these superpunches that took 5 seconds to throw but when they landed you were automatically critically stunned or knocked out. So pernell whitaker could KO Hagler with one of those for example. Plus why have such a slow punch in a boxing game?

Then you had the "judge jab" style. With this style every jab took off 1/4 of your opponent's health. The jab had more power on it than hooks, crosses and uppercuts.

Lastly...the AI was terrible. You could beat the computer with ease...especially if you were using "judge jab".

The worst Easports boxing game though is still and will always be Knockout Kings 2002. That game was the reason why they dropped the "knockout Kings" name. It was an embarrassment. Everyone had the same style...threw 1 million unrealistically fast featherfist punches and you could be knocked down ten times and still get up. You also never ran out of stamina in that game. It was simply put..a joke!!

Knockout Kings 99 or 2000 was my favorite. I thought Fight Night would improve on it but it didn't.

FNR3 had the best most versatile defensive mechanics in terms of being able to block/parry/slip and feint. I agree the haymaker shit was retarded and the gameplay was too slow, though. I guess the best possible game would be FNR3's defense combined with FNR4's offensive controls + feinting. The TPC in FNR4 was the best, imo.

I guess I said FNR3 because in my mind the ability to feint and block in quadrants stands out as what I hate the most for its absence in FNC. I stand by the statement that FNC sucks.

I just remembered what I hated most about FNR3 - the ability to walk around with your fist cocked back, ready to unleash a giant haymaker that never lost its power as you moved around. That, plus the buttons.

I too liked the "quadrant" system of the first three fight nights. Fight Night 2 was better than 3 overall though.

Still...although you just have a block button in "Champion" the point is that you can't just hold block and not get hit. Eventually punches will get through (like real life) and so you have to be calculated with the use of the block. That takes an entirely different skill than was in previous games (round 4 touched on that too). Just like real life, it's better to avoid punches altogether (duck, slip etc) than it is to block.

The point is...there's still great skill involved in using the all-encompassing block button. Champion has the largest variety of punches of any boxing game (hookercuts, overhand rights etc) and the haymakers are just as fast (if not faster sometimes) as the normal punches. The right cross also looks powerful in this one.

Combine this with the multitude of different styles and "Champion" rules with an Iron Fist. No competition.

Not enough style variations. Very good though and highly playable...but repetitive as every fighter threw their punches in EXACTLY the same way, blocked the same way and there were only three "movement" styles.

Roy Jones, Ali, Leonard all fought exactly the same way etc.

You couldn't push or hold either (or switch stance).

Nah my friend....things have developed since that game. It was good in its time, no doubt, but Champion and Round 4 absolutely annihilate that game.

Like many here I had all those guys at one point.....and they usually sucked ass..I like one or two of the early Knockout Kings not the first one maybe 2000-2001...I remember playing those guys for MONTHS.....

The Fight Night series I play for a few weeks and usually never come back to them....not enough fighter, same repetitive commentating, game play SUCKS, etc...etc...I always say i won't by the newest version...but I always end up buying it...TILL now...I have not purchase CHampion and i don't intent 2...

The game i played the most these last few months is NCAA Football 2011...i'm in year 2025 in my dynasty mode.....:cheer:. WAR George Tech...I remember playing a few years w/ WYOMING and getting the opportunity to move my team into BIG 10 or something...I would love for my team to be able to switch into the SEC...

The best thing about the first game was that the button for the jab was also the button for a short left hook, depending on your range. So you could jab and step in and hook, clinch, do a bit of cheating, throw single rights, flurry, run away- it was just vastly more fun and more playable.

One thing I loved about it was that you could score flash knockdowns, and that your opponent gained a bit of energy when you floored them, so it wasn't always the case that a knockdown secured you the win. Sometimes they came back stronger. I remember the first time I got to the championship stages in career-mode and I was fighting Hagler...I dropped him but the computer came back stronger than ever and I dropped a split decision- I was just trying to load up to get him out of there but found that I actually needed MORE haymakers to get rid of him than before I had dropped him.

The collision detection in later games was terrible. Oh, we have bumped elbows, now that left hook you were throwing from your boots up needs to be started again...:wack:

I'm not referring to just looks. I'm referring to fighting styles, AI tendencies and abilities.

Pacquiao IS Pacquiao in that game. He's a high energy fast agressive relentless beast who fights in EXACTLY the same style as he does in real life.

KO Kings 2001 because it introduced Total Punch Control, giving you the freedom to throw whatever combination possible
