I agree. I was never sold on Juanma, I always thought his defense was terrible, I just didnt know it was this bad. He's also a very dumb fighter. He needs to seriously consider a new trainer and making his training camps away from Puerto Rico.

i'd rather see gamboa skip 130 and go straight to 135 to fight marquez. i guess that depends on whether marquez stays w/ golden boy or not.

Lots of guys with inferior speed have beaten guys with superior speed. Juan Ma has great timing and mixes up his punches well. Gamboa is nothing more than a front runner. I wouldn't be shocked if Gamboa got the same treatment from Juan Ma that Hamed got from Barrera.

    Don't be absurd.

Gamboa can box and Lopez can't, completely different story to Barrera and Hamed.

Plus Gamboa is just a much, much better fighter than Hamed, and Lopez is not even close to being as good as prime Barrera.

    Absurd comparison.

Juanma Lopez has been regressing rather then progressing as of late. He needs to take his training camp out of Puerto Rico. He also needs a trainer than can actually show him some defense.

Arum is an idiot. I still want to seee Juanma vs Gamboa though.

I think Gamboa is also a KO waiting to happen, but it will be a brutal one shot KO when it happens. He's already tasted the canvas several times.

Defensive skill? And Lopez does?

Yeah Lopez is tough and ballsy, but that's it. The gulf in talent is too much.

This fight is no different to Mayorga Vs Oscar or Cotto etc, it's going to be 1 sided.

By the way, why don't you ask Salido who has more defensive skill?

Gamboa can be a bit wreckless, but Lopez is 20 times more hittable.

    LMAO!

JuanMa has the boxing IQ of a brick. He could NEVER in 3 lifetimes pull off what MAB did. He doesnt have near the skill level/boxing brain of MAB.

Agreed! I'm still a bit surprised on how bad Lopez looked Saturday night. He better seriously consider making some changes if he wants to have a longer career. At this rate his career will be over after a few more beatings.

Gamboas defence is to hold. Not to mention Gamboa goes down from bad balance so could cost him down the stretch along with his cardio.

No they didn't. People knew Barrera was a skilled attacking fighter, Hamed was a 3 to 1 favourite because for some bizarre fucking reason, he was supposed to be an elite fighter.

Lopez doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the likes of Barrera, and I don't even like Barrera.

Xplosive is right, Lopez has the boxing IQ of a brick. Very basic, very stupid fighter.

Barrera through out even his early career displayed more skill, and IQ than JuanMa ever has.

JuanMa has good(not great) power, throws compact shots, and has heart. Thats about it.

His defense is horrible, and always will be, his chin is mediocre, he's slow on his feet, and he's not a very smart fighter.

Every fighter that throws caution to the wind on a regular basis ends up a loser. You can tout the great chin, the great recovery, the "toughness", and indeed at the world level many fighters do possess these traits - but sooner or later cracks appear.

JuanMa has fought unnecessarily recklessly multiple times, and although he is very entertaining, and he came out on top, he took FAR more abuse than he needed to and even at this young age it is wearing him down. Paul Williams used to get hit so often it was scary, but as long as the beard held, it didn't matter. But of course it didn't hold, and his career prime has been brief. Yeah you throw 100 punches a round, but you get hit too fucking MUCH!

You can't keep fighting like that.

Others have said it here, and I agree. JuanMa needs to use the jab and come in behind it. Don't commit your whole body to every punch. Be ready and in position to slip or block counters. He is skilled enough to do it, but he needs to make immediate adjustments. He is an excellent puncher, and this will allow him to take a more tempered approach to fights and still win them in an exciting fashion. SET UP the offense. Openings will appear.

Gamboa has some holes stylistically, but he is patching them up fast. He is getting better, whereas JuanMa does not seem to be progressing at all. Because Gamboa still sticks that chin up in the air when he is watching for opportunities while in range, he is still vulnerable to being dropped, and JuanMa has the power to hurt him. But without a style change, JuanMa will be dangerous for a few rounds against Gamboa, and then will begin to fade from being hurt by solid shots.

Right now Gamboa wins a fight between the two by beating JuanMa to the punch and hurting him as Lopez stalks around loading up on haymakers. Gamboa is better. But it is a fight I would still like to see if Lopez can get serious about refining his style, and he certainly has a substantive chance to win if that happens. If not, then Gamboa goes a few competitive rounds with Lopez until he starts to take over and eventually overwhelms and stops Lopez.

I really hate seeing young fighters patting themselves on the back for being rocked or dropped several times during a fight, but persevering. Against the elite of the elite - fine. Happens. But against B or B+ fighters, a win that takes 2 years off your boxing career is not a win. The goal is to NOT get dropped or hurt - not to prove you are tough enough to weather it. The Mickey Wards of the world do it because they have no other choice in the matter of winning fights. Their limitations force them to take unwelcome punishment in order to win. But JuanMa doesn't need to do that right now, and he is doing it anyway.
