Show me a Werren fighter who wasn't/isn't.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you are some shit British fighter, Werren is an excellent promotor. He'll almost certainly get you some WBO title shot after you have sparked a long succession of bums, past-prime 'names' and other stooges and, when you inevitably lose, at least you'll have made a few bob. Look, for example, at Gavin Rees: that little punchbag actually won a world title once...

But if you are any good, and Hatton was actually far better than most people (me included, actually) thought in 2004, then Werren is a completely fucking useless bastard, because by the time you realize that you are any good, you have probably wasted most of your career fighting stiffs. Both Hatton and Calzaghe (who you hate with a passion) suffered from this IMO, except Calzaghe realised far too late what had happened and never really made the jump in the way that Ricky did.

    Basically, Werren is a cunt.

I never liked Hatton. I won money off friends betting against him. I give him credit though for testing himself against the best, that's all anyone asks of a fighter.

Hatton lost only twice and to guys who will be in most people's top 10-15 P4P best ever lists. He beat everyone else he ever faced, including some good/very good fighters. No shame in that, and, as you say, he made an absolute ton of cash: the UK PPV for the Mayweather fight earned him around ten million quid if my memory serves, which is good now that he is a fat, alcoholic coke-head.

Yes, it has nothing to do with the fact that the guy never looked brilliant at Welter. In fact you were one of the people here saying he LOST to Collazo. Of course, that was before he fought Floyd :wack:

Calzaghe would have been a far more respected fighter if he had Hattons ambition, whilst Hatton would have been a far better fighter with Calzaghes talent. Yergetme

Wasn't Handfed (Hamed) with Warren as well?

Hatton finally got smart and followed the model Roy Jones started and Lemmon Lewis emulated...create your shell promotional company to keep some of the fees he paid to Warren.

I think Hatton started his "company" for the Pacquaio fight.

IMO Hatton is a complete overachiever, whilst Calzaghe under achieved. Ricky basically had one world class attribute and was a natural fat bastard, yet he ruled a division pretty conclusively for about half a decade and made it his business to challenge the very best. Calzaghe had all the talent in the world but has about five defining fights in near fifty total and is almost universally derided.

    I blame Werren.

I think he was, and he's another example of a British fighter who wasted his prime fighting old guys and stiffs.

If memory serves, Hatton fucked Werren off before the Mayweather fight. I might be wrong, but I can't remember Werren being involved...

That's how I remembered it too. Werren was REALLY pissed off about it, which was nice.

Nope- I distinctly remember sitting in my hall at 5, 6AM {it was bright by the time the fight ended} and this entire forum was in meltdown about how Hatton had lost and you were one of the main protagonists of the idea that Hatton had looked terrible.

Thats not an agenda, thats just how I remember it.

Hatton has a very truncated frame, he looked poor with the extra poundage, and a 5'11" Southpaw WW made him look very average.

Yup, he did his own thing for the Maussa fight (though maybe with another British promoter). After that, he did a three fight deal with Banner (Collazo, Urango, Castillo), then moved to Golden Boy.

His personal issues aside, he's done well on the other side of the ropes. Hardly a shell company he created.

I have to say, I think Warren is a much better promoter now than he was back then. Because of the walk outs he knows he has to deliver big fights or the shit will keep on happening.

Hatton looked very good at 147 when he fought Floyd. It was a competitive fight and a legit matchup of top 5 P4P fighters.

How many good fighters did he fight? His top 3 wins imo is Zoo, Paulie M and Vince Phillips. Thats not exactly impressive.

Would Hatton be able to beat Khan, Bradley, Alexander, Maidana or even Morales.

I'd take a peak Hatton over all those guys... Bradley might be a toss up.

Give it a rest. I've never heard a Hatton fan use the weight as an excuse for that loss. Floyd was hardly a big WW. Also, the fight was competitive and then Hatton did get stopped. There's no shame in losing to a fighter like Mayweather, who despite being a woman beating, child-threatening, piece of shit , is still a great fighter.

Hatton lost to the two best fighters of this era.

Hatton at welterweight? He's 5'6" with what a 67" reach. That's a built in disadvantge against almost all other WWs, plus his biggest strength at 140 (inside strength) is nullified.

Good post... But the part about Hatton fans not using the weight as an excuse simply isn't true.
