There is a taper partly because he has bigger shoulders than Tszyu. Michael has decent sized legs too. Katsidis is at least as big as Tszyu, he's just better at cutting weight. And Tszyu's legs are not "very thick set", they are just a decent size at 140. Look at this pic where you can see the entire legs He has decent thighs, but probably smaller calves than Pacquiao.
Bullshit. You have argued me for weeks, stopping only rub-downs and quick food breaks, and maybe a change of keyboard. :nono:
I wouldn't say Kelly is thicker, but Martinez is just BARELY thicker if at all, and fucking 5 inches shorter :: Compared to Marquez who is at least as tall as Tszyu and a similar build. At least one other person sees sense :bears:
I think it's beyond ridiculous to think there is a bigger size disparity between Marquez and Tszyu. In the ring, they would look more or less the same size. In the ring, Martinez looked 2 weight divisions smaller. He won because he's much better.
Thicker than Pavlik???... Despite the Lanky Frame, Pavlik ISN'T a Skinny Guy by Any Stretch....Pavlik Lacks DEFINITION, but he's a Tall, Fairly THICK Guy, from what REED's Seen...Martinez was More CUT, More DEFINED than Pavlik, but Certainly NOT Thicker... REED:hammert:
Oh and by the way, in case you think that height difference is legit that Steve posted, you can view the weigh in yourself. Kelly was barefoot and Martinez had these big, chunky trainers on. With boxing boots, the height difference was 5 inches at least. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9xOFCKyOBs&feature=player_embedded#at=223 Forward to around 3:33 and you'll see Pavlik barefoot, and Sergio's big trainers.
Martinez is More MUSCULAR, for Sure...REED Interprets "Thickness" as WIDTH...GIRTH...In the Side by Side Pic, Pavlik's Upper Body is WIDER...MEATIER... In the Staredown Pic, Martinez's Chest, Back, Arms & Abs R More SCULPTED... REED:egypt:
I'm not saying you did, I'm just making sure people don't think that is the real height difference between the two when assessing these size differences. And yeah, Martinez just has a far more impressive, muscular physique, but he's barely any thicker. And the fact is, in the ring, Pavlik looked MUCH bigger, no question about it.
I don't think he would have cleared out 140, he would have struggled with guys any bigger than Tszyu, because like I said, he IS smaller than Tszyu, just not by much.
Hmm. No, but it's close. I think the current Martinez is excellent and #3 P4P, but I would give the Marquez of 2002 to 2004 the edge in ability. I don't see how that's relevant though to be honest.
I'm just curious. You think JMM would beat Tszyu, who cleared out 140, but you think Marquez is too small to do the same. Sergio is a dominant middleweight champion, but you think the guy he won the title from is bigger than Tszyu would be vs. Marquez. Would make sense if you thought Sergio is a better fighter, but you don't.
I'm a big fan of Martinez and even I wouldn't call him a "dominant middleweight champion". A dominant champion is a lightweight Duran, or a super bantamweight Morales etc, or a middleweight Monzon or Hagler or Hopkins. Since beating Pavlik, a guy I picked him to beat who he matches up very well with stylistically, he's scored two awesome KO's, one of those being against an average world class 154 pounder. So um, no, he's a very good middleweight, but he's hardly proved to be a dominant middleweight champion.
Who would I pick over him? Now? No one. He would bash everyone in the top 10 apart from Pirog. Pirog is capable of giving him a good fight, but I would be confident of a Martinez win there too. In large part because 160 is pretty crap right now. Check out these rankings, they are laughable. Look at the WBC's :: Honestly if these guys were 140 pounders I would pick the Marquez of TODAY to beat them, let alone a prime Marquez.
