Lost to both Mosley and Marquez, how big a stock plummet and shock would this be?

It was something mentioned in another thread, but can you think of something similar from a guy ranked as #1 P4P and rated quite as highly as Pacquiao?

It wouldn't just be losing 2 in a row, it would be losing 2 in a row to fighters he's heavily favoured to beat.

The most obvious comparison would be Roy, it's exactly what happened to him with Tarver and Johnson.

Can you think of any other similar situations?

Tarver and Johnson aren't even close to the HOF, while Marquez and Mosley are locks, so it's a little different.

His career wasn't over and his opponents were top notch, but what about DLH vs Tito and then Mosley 1?

Jermaine Taylor maybe? Calderon has slipped too.

I know it's MMA but would Fedor qualify? Lol.

Would depend on the nature of the loses. Would have to be pretty extreme for them to really hurt his standing, all-time.

Yeah it is different because Mosley and Marquez are obviously better than Tarver and Johnson, but it's still somewhat similar because Pacquiao is a big favourite to beat Mosley, and right now would surely be a big favourite over Marquez too.

Taylor and Calderon don't count, because they were obviously not rated as the #1 fighter or even close to it.

Fedor is a good example actually.

I don't agree that 2011 Mosley is better than the Tarver who beat Jones.

    That Tarver... beat Jones!

jones jr wasnt heavily favored when he lost to tarver.

I agree, I don't really think his all time ranking would be affected at all to be honest.

Even if he got dominated by both of them, people would probably just assume he had become shot overnight and he'd probably retire.

I guess I more meant how much of a shock would it be at the time, and what similar scenarios can you think of apart from Roy?

Pacquiao is so high in weight that a KO loss wouldn't really blow my mind to be honest.

    It would and it wouldn't.

It wouldn't because in all honestly, each time he moves up in weight I half expect it and think surely this is a step too far etc.

But because he's been SO dominant at 140+ and taken punches so well, I'd still be pretty shocked.

Vs. Marquez I'd be shocked... against Mosley, who can still punch a bit, no so much.

    Are you sure?

I don't think I even looked at the odds for the fight, but would have thought Roy would be at least a 3 to 1 favourite.

Although I guess Tarver did make him look a lot more human than usual in the first fight.

To Mosley, maybe, but Marquez? That would hurt Pacquaio's legacy IMO, especially if Marquez does it at 147.

It's Floyd's fault we are even talking about this.:pissed:

Yeah, 3-1 is right, maybe a little more. A Tarver KO was 6-1.

Yeah obviously, Marquez would be a big shock, but a legit welter with power, not so much.

Hut Hut actually seems to think Shane has a half decent chance of a KO.

It's a long shot, given Shane's age and the difference in overall ability at this point.

well i bet on jones jr at the fight and he was even odds to win by decision

As welterweights in 2011? Nothing obvious about that, at all.
