  2. War indeed. both men taste canvas methinks. Marquez can't stop him though. Ultimately Corrales wins by stoppage.

I think Marquez gets up to win, frankly... he's too skillful for Corrales

Have to go Marquez... BUT, if Corrales gets him down, he could keep him there.

  5. Corrales was POWERFUL though. If he could stop granite chinned Castillo he could stop Marquez (who was dropped by Barrera and on quite a few other occasions)

The pure boxer (boring) Marquez of the late 90s, early 00s is best suited to whip Diego, IMO. The modern Marquez could lose, but probably doesn't.

Corrales is HUGE compared to Marquez at this weight and hit like a freight train. But Marquez is the truth, I'll take Marquez SD.

but Castillo was there to be hit far more often than Marquez and was attacking Corrales with no thought that he could get hurt... remember Corrales was essentially one good shot away from being KOd

and, furthermore, he was NOT granite-chinned

where did this myth come from?

Cesar Soto knocked him out cold, for christ's sake

Castillo was a tough guy with a GOOD chin

Marquez became more offensive-minded once he moved up to 130. While I can see him outboxing Chico by a mile, one or two clean shots catching him on the chin could very well be a game changer.

Marquez by decision or Chico by late stoppage seem to be the only two plausible outcomes.

Dangerous fight, & if I were managing him, I would've kept Marquez away from this fight if possible, but at the same time, I still feel Marquez deserves favouritism somewhat. He is just such a plainly better fighter, & if Casamayor (inferior to the prime Marquez) can win two from three over Corrales, Marquez can do this.

At 130 I'd heavily favour Marquez. At 135 it gets more interesting.

  13. Exactly. He was what...19 years old or something? Unfair to bring that up. It's like people bringing up Pacquiao's early KO losses..when Pac has since proved a very reliable chin and durability.

  14. Heavily huh?

    wow.

Corrales was a killer at 130lbs and although Mayweather bounced him up and down, I believe it was more Floyd's movement and unpredictable lightening fast left hook counters that dropped him rather than power per se.

Marquez has never been an elusive fighter. He gets busted up in every fight, even fights he's winning handily. Marquez didn't have Floyd's power at 130lbs. I see Marquez walking into the eye of the storm, having some success but I can't see him avoiding too many of Corrales quick powerful short punches that he throws in combination when he has a more stationary target. He'll be busted up as usual and it would be power that he hasn't yet seen (even more power in terms of heavyhandedness than Pacquiao).

Marquez by close, perhaps controversial murder

If Pac can't KO Marquez I don't think Corrales does. And if Corrales can't get a KO I don't think he can win, personally.

  17. Corrales had a different type of power to pac. His was more of a bludgeoning power. Blunt trauma vs knife trauma.

It's like Tyson vs Bowe power.

Tyson's was sharp and he could KO Tubbs in 2 rounds whereas Bowe would go the distance.

But Evander could handly Tyson's punches better than he could handle Bowe's.

Boxing's a funny game like that.

I'm not sure Marquez could handle the blunt trauma as well as he handles Pac's sharp punches.

Castillo was hurt in fights long after that one

he had a GOOD chin, not a GRANITE chin
